A202 Chemistry II
AY 2020 Semester 2
Module Briefing

1
OFFICIAL (CLOSED) \ NON-SENSITIVE

Background

• This module enables students to develop a good understanding of

chemical principles that apply to fields such as materials science,
pharmaceutical sciences and environmental science. Students will
learn to appreciate how the sub-microscopic properties of atoms
and molecules affect the macroscopic properties of matter;
understand the basis and relevance of chemical reactions and
mechanisms; and appreciate the concepts involved in chemical
reactions such as equilibrium, thermodynamics and kinetics.
• Topics covered include:
• colligative properties of chemical compounds,
• transition metal chemistry,
• phase diagrams,
• spontaneity of chemical reactions and chemical kinetics, as well as
• organic chemistry such as electrophilic addition, nucleophilic
substitution and free radical reactions

Key Deliverables for Attainment of Knowledge

A202 Rules and Regulations for LEO quiz and cluster quiz
• You are reminded to maintain Academic Integrity at all times and must not share your
LEO quiz and Cluster quiz with other students.
• Do note that any students caught cheating during the LEO quiz and/or cluster quiz in
any way is liable to disciplinary action including, but not limited to, an outright failure
for the CA grade and downgrading of the Module Grade.
• More severe penalties which can be imposed on a student caught cheating in the LEO
quiz and/or cluster quiz include suspension or even dismissal from the polytechnic.
• The quizzes are meant to be done individually by the student (without consulting
anyone).
• For the LEO quiz, students can refer to bounded notes or resources stored in their
laptop.
• For the cluster quiz, students are NOT allowed to refer to the laptop but they can refer
to their own written notes and printed IS slides.
• It is highly encouraged that students take down their own notes while the lecturer is
going through lesson so students can refer to them during their quizzes.
