9266: The Architecture Act of 2004

The Architecture Act of 2004 is about more than just regulating the practice of
architects in the Philippines. This is also a protection for those wishing to construct a house or
other structures. Republic Act No. 9266 is the one that repeals Republic Act No. 545. This is
the law that was enacted after World War II to allow architects to assist in the construction of
our nation's infrastructure because of the extensive damage caused by the war. Because it is
already 50 years old, it needs to be updated to provide a more responsive and comprehensive
regulatory framework for the practice of architecture in the Philippines.
Since Architecture is profession, it is governed by the PRC (Professional Regulation
Commission), which also oversees the PR-BoA. (Professional Regulatory-Board of
Architecture). Its primary function is to administer a board exam to those interested in this
profession. It also includes certification such as licensure. Its role also includes monitoring the
conditions affecting architecture practice and the compliance of architecture schools in the
Philippines. They are also included in the development of the Code of Ethical Standards and
Professional Practice Standards. They also issue temporary or special permits for architects to
practice. The most important job of the PR-BoA is to hear and decide administrative cases. The
PR-BoA also has the responsibility of establishing guidelines for the CPD (Continuing
Professional Development) program. Attendance at CPD shall not be a mandatory requirement
for the renewal of a professional license under this law, but this was repealed due to the CPD
law. All applicants must take a licensure examination, according to Section 12: Examination is
Required. There are also prerequisites for taking a board exam. Section 13 states that an
applicant for examination must be either a Filipino citizen or a qualified foreigner. For
foreigners, a reciprocity agreement between the Philippines and your country is required.
Following that, you must have a strong moral character. You must not also be convicted of any
crime involving moral turpitude. Moral turpitude is defined as an individual act that brings
shame to the profession. However, Section 24: Re-issuance or Replacement states that it
reinstates the validity of a revoked Certificate. Another requirement is that you must be a
graduate or have completed a 5-year course in BS Architecture from an accredited school, as
well as have two years of diversified experience, or what we call apprenticeship. After passing
the board exam, you must take an oath of profession before beginning practice.
There are certain expectations that an architect you must be aware of when building
houses and other structures. Section 3 defines a service agreement as a duly notarized written
contract that specifies the scope of services and guarantees compensation. It must include a
third party so that if there is a disagreement, it is not your word against his. There is also a work
of services stipulation so that the client understands what the architects' responsibilities. As
well as the architect's client in terms of the schedule of payment. Following that, under article
4, the plans and documents must be sealed by a licensed architect in accordance with the board's
specifications. An architect must not seal or sign any document that they did do.
To summarize this subject, R.A. Articles I to IV of the Architecture Act of 2004 are all
about the definitions of this law, the regulations of the board of architecture, the registration
process before becoming a professional architect, and finally the practice of architecture.

As an architecture student, it is important to understand these laws before entering the

practice of architecture in the future, so that you are aware of your responsibilities and can
avoid problems that may arise in the future. It is also for the society to run smoothly and without
problems or riots. To maintain justice and equality in society, some rules and regulations must
be established. It also benefits and serves protection for both parties between clients and
architects.

Being a professional refers to anyone who makes a living by doing something that
requires a certain level of education, skill, or training. According to the law, to be considered
a true professional architect, you must have a proper educational background, two years of
training, and pass a board exam. An architect collaborates with clients to design and determine
building requirements. They are the ones who are expected to be capable of producing the
highest quality design projects. Professionalism is one of these characteristics. I want to be an
architect with a wide range of qualifications, the majority of which they must excel at.
As an architecture student, I will put my skills and abilities to the test to improve my
work and creativity. Take inspiration from anything, such as my professors' advice on their
professional field experiences. Discover and learn more about my field. Being a professional
entail more than just being educated and having the necessary skills. Professionalism is
something that everyone should strive for. It is about doing our jobs well and delivering high-
quality work to everyone.
