JOHOR LEADERSHIP MODEL:

YAB TAN SRI DATO HAJI MUHYIDDIN BIN YASSIN

A very wonderful morning I bid to the honourable judges,

teachers and fellow audiences. My name is Heng Xin and I am a

proud Johorean. Today, I would love to deliver my speech on a model

that I look up to very much. The title of my speech is “Tan Sri Dato

Haji Muhyiddin bin Yassin, the 8th prime minister of Malaysia.

Muhyiddin Yassin was born on 15 May 1947 in Muar, Johor. He

received his primary education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Maharani in

1954 and Sekolah Kebangsaan Ismail in 1957. Later on, he continued

his secondary education at Muar High School, Johor in 1960.

Subsequently, he attended the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur

and received an honour bachelor degree in Economics and Malay

studies in 1971. He then extracted his knowledge about the

leadership of Johor.

In the 1986 general election, Muhyiddin won Johor State

Legislative constituency seat of Bukit Serampang, opening the path

for him to become the Menteri Besar of Johor on 13 August 1986.

At that time, he was 39.

His wisdom in planning and administering has boosted the

economy of Johor with a growth of over 9 per cent for five

consecutive years. Under his administration, Johor experienced full

employment that only a small number of countries in the world

enjoyed.

As well as the Chairman of the Economic Development

Corporation, Johor became a symbol of the success of the French

conglomerate in the country. The state privatization policy of Johor

benefited all people because the money saved built a lot of facilities

around Johor and Malay economic success shared through Amanah

Saham Johor. It showed that he was very concerned about the life

quality of Johor people.

He likewise served several different federal government

cabinet posts as Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Domestic

Trade and Consumer Affairs, Minister of Agriculture and Agro-

based Industry and Minister of International Trade and Industry.

He was also appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of

Education by Prime Minister Najib Razak in 2009. And now, he

becomes the Prime Minister of Malaysia since 2020.

During his administration, COVID-19 spread throughout the

nation. In response, Muhyiddin implemented the 2020 Malaysia

movement control order (MCO) on 16 March 2020 to prevent the

disease from infecting more Malaysians. This order was challenging,

and it will be making a great impact on Malaysia’s Economy. In

response to the economic impact of COVID-19, he introduced an

economic stimulus package worth RM 250 billion on 27 March to

soften the economic strain during the MCO. Here, we can see that

YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s lead character is bold and willing to accept

unprecedented challenges in his working life and is also willing to

lead his cabinet members with his leadership experience.

In conclusion, I would say that I am very proud to have such a

charismatic Prime Minister. He also gives me the impact to improve

my leadership skill in my school. That’s all from me. Thank you very

much.
