Acids:
Acids are found in many places, one of the most well-
known acids is Phosphoric acid, which is found in coca
cola.
Acidic: Alkaline:
A substance with a sour A strong base, with a bitter

Coca cola is an acidic drink with a pH value of 2.3. This pH value is similar to lemon
juice and vinegar. Acids are corrosive to chalk, which is made of calcium, just like our
bones and teeth. When we drink soda’s, we shower our teeth in acid, damaging them.
Vinegar(Acetic acid CH₃COOH):
Vinegar is an acid normally used in cooking. When mixed with baking soda(base) it
creates a gas. Just like coca cola, vinegar can do damage to calcium, but normally we
don’t drink vinegar, but eat it, reducing its erosive effect on our teeth. Mixing salt in
vinegar creates very weak hydrochloric acid.
Hydrochloric acid (HCl):
Hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid, used to dissolve bricks in construction and its
also used to make batteries. Hydrochloric acid can be diluted to be less dangerous and
is used to remove chalk from bathrooms and walls. If we mix vinegar and salt, it
creates hydrochloric acid.
