MONITORING AND EVALUATION

TO : MR LUSANGADZI
FROM : WINIKO ZIWOYA
ASSIGNIMENT : 1) EXPLAINING THE ELEMENTS THAT TAKE PLACE WHEN
CONDUCTING A RESEARCH AS A PATICIPANT OBSEARVER
a. COMPELETE PARTICIPANT
b. COMPLETE OBSERVER
c. OBSERVER AS A PARTICIPANT
2) DEFINING THE FOUR TYPES OF QUESTIONNAIRE
APPROACHES
3) MENTIONING THE GENERAL RULES FOR DESIGNING
QUESTIONNAIRES
4) WHAT IS PROBABILITY SAMPLING AND
NON – PROBABILITY SAMPLING
LEVEL : FIVE
SEMESTER NO : ONE
ASSIGNMENT NO : TWO
COURSE TITLE : RESEARCH METHODS
Assignment
1. The elements that take place when conducting research as a participant observer
a. Complete participant
This involves that the identity and purpose of the researcher is not revealed to the
group members
b. Complete observer
This involves that the purpose of the research activity is not revealed to those
being observed and the researcher doesn’t take part in the activities being
observed
c. Observer as a participant
-
2. Types of questionnaire approaches
i) Computer questionnaire.
This involves the respondents are asked to answer the questionnaire which is sent
by email
ii) Telephone questionnaire
This involves the choosing to call potential respondents with the aim of getting
them to answer questionnaire
iii) In house survey
This involves the researcher visiting respondents in their houses or workplaces.
iv) Mail questionnaires
This sort of questionnaires involve the researcher to send the questionnaire to
respondents through post (Dudovskly, 2022)

3. General rules for designing questionnaires

i) Identify your aims and the goal of your questionnaire
ii) Define your target respondents
iii) Develop questions
iv) Choose your question type
v) Design question sequence and overall layout
vi) Run a pilot (Collis & Hussey, 2003)

4. What is probability and non – probability sampling

Sampling is the method of selecting a representative subset of the population called
sample.
i) Non – probability sampling technique uses non randomized methods to draw the
sample.
ii) U1
Non-probability sampling method mostly involves judgment. Instead of
randomization, participants are selected because they are easy to access.
iii) Probability sampling this is a technique which shows that each sample has an
equal probability of being chosen.
This method of sampling gives the probability that the sample is representative of
a population. (Nayeem & Huma, 2017)
