Problem Set 2
MANOMETER

1. What is the gage pressure expressed in meters of water if the absolute pressure
is 280 kPa and the barometer reading is 720 mm.

2. Determine the heights of columns of water, kerosene S = 0.83, and acetylene

tetrabromide S = 2.94, equivalent to 245 mm Hg.

3. Express a pressure of 75 kPa in a) millimeters of mercury, b) meters of water,

and c) meters of acetylene tetrabromide, S = 2.94.

4. In the setup shown, A contains water and the manometer fluid has a relative
density of 2.94. When the left meniscus is at zero on the scale, P A = 120 mm
H2O. Determine the reading of the right meniscus for PA = 10 kPa with no
adjustment of the U-tube or scale.

5. In the micromanometer below, determine the gage difference R for a difference
in gas pressure of 15 mm H2O. ɣ2 = 9.8 kN/m3, ɣ3 = 10.5 kN/m3, 𝐴 = 0.01
𝑎

6. For the differential manometer shown, S1 = S3 = 0.83, S2 = 13.6, h1 =145 mm,

h2 = 65 mm, and h3 = 110 mm. Find PA if PB = 80 kPa. For PA = 120 kPa absolute
and a barometer reading of 650 mm, find PB in meters of water gage.
