Importance of Elections to the Filipino People to Elect a Leader

Introduction
An election is a process in which people vote for a political leader or government representative.
We are all aware that the Philippines is a democratic country, and that the ability to vote is the
main means by which most residents may influence how their country is governed. When the
government decides to organize an election, citizens have an opportunity to vote. Politicians
must persuade voters to vote for them to win an election. Each political party must outline its
goals (action plan), which explains what it would accomplish if elected. Each political party
creates a policy platform that it promises to implement if it is elected. This is called a platform.
Citizens vote in secret by marking a ballot paper and putting it in a ballot box that is not opened
until the polls (casting of votes) have closed. Voters must determine whether they agree with the
promises made on the platform and whether the politicians can be trusted to keep them if they
are elected.

When we talk about electing new leaders and replacing the old ones in the government here in
the Philippines, the election comes to our mind first. The Philippines is running a democratic
government, everyone is given a chance to vote. The election process is very important when it
comes to formal decision-making in electing individuals to run under the general law to serve the
people. It has its own rules. The election process becomes unfair when corruption is
implemented inside or outside the process or some officials break the rule. The purpose of
having an efficient election process is to have a smooth flow and to be fair in choosing or
electing leaders who run in the said position.
