Opportunities Over Nationality

Word count: 505 words

Many individuals, particularly in developing nations, have considered migrating to

another country, either domestically or globally, for a variety of reasons, including a lack

of work possibilities, low salaries, restricted chances, inadequate educational

opportunities, or a terrible environment. As a result, people's mentality these days is to

live a decent life. In such a circumstance, Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are

compelled to broaden their options for career and business prospects, employment

status, a better working environment, and educational background. As a result,

relocation to the home country may result in a loss of trained workers, slow economic

growth and development, and negative psychological impacts among families.

The Philippines is a developing country that belongs to the global south. Many

OFWs migrate worldwide, either partially or completely, to meet the needs of their

families, their loved ones.  The Philippines has a high level of unemployment of 5.1

percent to 10.3 percent (2021) and a labor market of 5.3 percent, which prompted

significantly to the Philippines' unemployment rate (Philippine Statistics Authority, 2020).

Low salaries and bad working conditions are widespread challenges in the labor market.

Inhumane treatment, a lack of work stability, and underemployment are all the

other factors. As a result, the Philippines suffers from extensive poverty and low

economic growth, which is why OFWs contemplate relocating abroad.

The Philippines is no newcomer to natural disasters and environmental issues,

particularly due to the warm temperature and typhoons that cause devastating floods.

Because of the severe consequences, the Filipinos have no option but to live with the

consequences. The Philippines is likely to have 20 typhoons every year, with an

estimation of 5 of them being damaging. As a result, the Filipinos must

relocate overseas to live in a healthy environment where natural disasters such as

typhoons are either not widespread in other nations or strike infrequently and less

frequently destructive. This initiative is intended to provide an escape from the

disastrous consequences of natural disasters and to allow people to live in a less

damaging environment, which the Philippines cannot provide.

Due to a lack of educational resources in the Philippines, Filipinos are forced to

move abroad to pursue higher education and degrees. Education is essential for gaining

chances and information that will lead to greater professional options and less life

obstacles. Many pupils are disadvantaged by a lack of educational opportunities and

resources, making them less likely to find work in the future. As a result, studying in a

developed nation allows Filipino students to explore professional options in other

countries, ensuring their success.

Filipinos frequently go abroad as a means of escaping poverty and preventing it

from affecting their life significantly. As a result, these people would wish to make their

lives easier and more comfortable, including being able to meet their requirements,

having more resources, and becoming more accessible. Although it cannot ensure them

a wealthy existence, if there are alternatives and opportunities to make their lives more

worthwhile, they should seize the potential to gain an improvement to countless of

Filipinos globally.
