Qualificationsand Applicationprocedurefor Membership


Any personwho, by knowledge,experience,and honorablestandingin the profession,is
qualifiedto advancethe objectsof the Societyshall be eligiblefor membership,providedhe
hashad a minimum of eight yearsof professionalexperience,includingnot lessthan five years
at work principally devoted to economicgeology,of which three years must have been in
positionsof responsibility. Graduatesin geologyor engineeringcan credit up to three years
of their full time postgraduatestudy in geologytoward the requiredeight yearsof experience.
Minimum experiencerequirementsalone will not necessarilyqualify a candidatefor member-
ship. Geologistsor engineerswho have rendered signal servicein applied geologybut do
not meet the aboveexperiencerequirementsare alsoeligiblefor membership.
The applicationprocedureis for the candidateto ask a sponsoringmemberto obtain one
copy of the Nomination to Membershipform and one copy of the MembershipSponsoring
form from the MembershipSecretary. The candidatewill give the initial sponsorthe names
of histwo othersponsoring members. The initial sponsorwill fill out the sponsoring
form, make
certain that all sponsorscompleteand sign both forms, and then will return the forms to the
MembershipSecretary. Thesewill next be duplicated,submittedto the AdmissionsCommittee,
circulated to the Membership, and acted on by Council the four stepstaking about a year.
