DATA AND DATA ANALYSIS

A. Data Collecting

The data were collected by giving the students multiple choice test

that consists of twenty items. The correct answer get point 5 and incorrect

answer get pointt 0, so the total of the right answer get point 100. In this

research, the sample was divided into two group, the experimental group

and control group. Twenty nine students belong to experimental group and

thirty two students belong to control group. Each group was given pre-test

and post-test.

This is the result of the pre-test and post-test in experimental group

in the table 4.1 and that is result of the pre-test and post-test in control

group in table 4.2.

C. Testing Hypothesis

The basic of testing hypothesis in this research were:

If t-observed > t-table, the hypothesis will be accepted.

If t-observed < t-table, the hypothesis will be rejected.

In this research, the value of t-table for the degree of freedom (df) 58 at

level of significance (a) 0.005 was 2.000.

The result of computing t-test shows that t-observed (t-obs) is higher than

t-table as follows:

t-obs > t-table (α = 0.05;df=58)

6.11 > 2.000 (α = 0.05;df=58)

Based on the data above, the writer concluded that alternative hypothesis

(Ha) is accepted and null hypoyhesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that “ there

is a significant effect applying Metacognitive strategy on students reading

comprehension’’
