4 In what ways does the writer use language and structure to convey her impressions of Bhutan? You
should support your answer with close reference to the extract, including brief quotion

IN beginning she describes the mountains and the valleys around her . “again and again,”the author
uses repetition to show the importance on the vast landscape. “Bhutan is all mountains and only
mountains”, the author might have had a sense of negativity. Like the author used the word “ only’”, he
might have felt there was nothing special about Bhutan. The write also says “but I cannot imagine it”,
it suggests that the writer has not seen anything and is in awe and overwhelmed . The author compares
it to a child playing with mud and rock . The author uses words like pinching mud, poking holes and
sharp peaks which sound kinda painful it might be suggesting the harsh terrain of the mountains.

We notice that it’s the authors first time coming here as she said its her first night. I watch mountains
rise to the moon “, this line is a hyperbole to show how amazed she was. The writer was curious about
what was beyond the mountains just to find there were only more mountains. On the other side of
mountain are mountains “, there repetiton tell she has lost her curiosity and now feels uneasy of how it
just keeps going on endlessly. Gorges and wind sharpened pinnacles , the author describes the
mountains to be really dangerous.

‘I share breakfast of instant coffee, powdered milk “,The writer doesn’t seem to like her breakfast and is
upset. The writer feels safe between Lorna and Sasha shows that they are close to eachother. “I stay
close to them “, the writer is feeling very unsafe and uneasy in Bhutan. She has lost all her enthusiasm
and excitement about the place and hopes to pick it back up. “ it seems even smaller. It doesn’t even
have traffic lights.”, the author is disappointed especially the word “Even” suggests that and feels like
the town is really simple. They seem to be selling the same things”, this line the writer lists the items
being sold and how they were so simple and old. This could say about how different the lifestyle is in
from where she lives. Later in the story the writer seems to have got enthusiasm back. The author has
a good impression from the people she mentions “ the man politely in impeccable English”. She now
has greater interest for this place now and after listening to the history of the place she appreciates it
even more . “ full of admiration”, she admires this country more.
