Section C (20 Marks)

Q.1 A researcher was interested to find out if the patient’s blood pressure (BP) varied
according to the setting it is measured. So he noted the systolic BP of 60 participants
measured in a dental OPD and then for the same participants was measured in a 1 X 10 = 10
Tertiary hospital after a sufficient gap. The data of 60 matched pairs (Dental – Tertiary
hospital) is summarized as follows:
Mean Difference = 4.47 and Standard Deviation = 8.77
i. State clearly the null and alternative hypotheses and choice of alpha level. (3)
ii. Name the test applied and test statistically to find an answer to the researcher’s
hypothesis that BP differs according to Dental and Tertiary hospital. (7)
OR
Two groups of rats were placed on diets with high and low protein contents and the
gain in weight were recorded after 2 months. The results of gain in weight are as
follows
Group A (high protein diet): 140, 117, 160, 123, 145, 127, 107, 146, 107, 102, 114,
121, 132, and 153
Group B (low protein diet): 97, 63, 110, 120, 96, 74, 86, 120, 115, 120, 150
Find out whether there is any significant difference between the weight gains in rats of
two groups using appropriate test (table value 3.84).
