ETHICS: FOUNDATIONS OF MORAL VALUATION

ACTIVITIES CHAPTER 10: SELF, SECURITY AND ENVIRONMENT

Directions: Please do the activities below.

1. Explain Eudaimonia in your own words in 10 to 20 sentences.

Eudaimonia refers to a type of happiness, which is a pure happiness. This

principle of happiness has something to do with Aristotle’s concept of purpose
or telos. Humans’ purposes in life are definitely to be happy. We can start an
interrogation or an interview with others using different approaches of why? Yet still
we will end up answering “to be happy”, and that is the goal. The fact that we still try
to be happy in the face of all that goes wrong or causes us suffering is something to
think about. This attitude and behavior are well known to be shown by Filipinos.
Despite several tragic events, catastrophes, and tragedies, we continue to find
reasons to smile. We aspire to be happy, a happiness above all comparison, and
that quality of ours is the best illustration of eudaimonia, in my opinion. Many people
are either unaware of it or do not know it. We have already achieved our telos
whenever we are comfortable, joyful, and satisfied. When everything is said and
done and we are at our most content, we may still acknowledge that God, who is the
source of all our joy, is behind everything we are doing. That's why we say "thank
you, Lord," when we're joyful.

2. Kindly explain your thought about Aristotle’s virtue ethics.

Aristotle’s concept started in the concept of virtue ethics of the nicomachean

ethics who are the pioneer of it. The uniqueness of virtue ethics can be
described by comparing it to consequentialist ethics and deontological ethics.
Consequentialist refers to or focusses on the outcome of any situation and
deontological ethics focusses on duty and laws. Virtue ethics does not focus on how
we should behave but rather it focusses on the character of a person. It is
not talking about what should I do? But answers to the question of what should I
become? Or what kind of a person should I be?
3. Make a poster showing “One becomes a better person.”

“You can come out bitter or you can come out better. Don’t just go through it,
grow through it. There is purpose in your pain”

4. Write then Describe your Physical Environment and your responsibilities

as human as a part of that environment.

Describing my physical environment be simply as a good environment.

Everything that God created is good. The concept of goodness is everywhere. But
because of people’s insatiable attitude and corruptness ruined this concept of
goodness. So, the responsibilities of mine and everyone is to bring back the
goodness of the environment to its natural state. If your communities raise up
children badly, then we should help them realize or help them to raise the children
with fear of God and concepts of goodness.

5. Is your institution is society- oriented? Or has Virtues such as justice,

liberality, magnificence, friendliness, and rightful indignation? Please
explain.

In response to this inquiry concerning our organization, I do think so. All of

this derives from our society's relationships as well as our belief in and trust of the
legal system. We sincerely desired to lead happy, trouble-free lives. where everyone
obeys both the laws of God and the country and everything is in conformity with
natural law. If everyone of us exemplifies the values of justice or equality, liberality or
freedom, grandeur, kindness, and righteous outrage, then there is no question that
whatever the institution does is focused on the benefit of the community.

6. What are your plans to the humanity? Do you have any? Please elaborate.

The only plans I am thinking of for humanity is to restore it in its rightful and
natural state. Meaning, everything is good. This concept of goodness is well seen in
each one life. Though there may people living in hunger and poverty, the spirit of
sharing is well spread. I am planning to educate everyone that the very reason why
we are here is not about us but about others. We are here to serve not to be serve.
7. Based on your readings in this chapter, kindly explain to us what are your
perceptions now in the 21st century individuals?

Speaking of people in the twenty-first century, they are open-minded and

know no bounds. Respect is becoming lost. Social networking does not uphold virtue
ethics. Even though people can assert that they have a right to their own beliefs, it is
improper to ignore or discard the idea of values. Each user of social media has their
own unique influence. Future generations will be impacted by what they portray, so
we must remember to act morally and to cling to the idea of God's love for us.
