Essay:
Read the following quotation and reflect on the meaning of its message to your life
as a teenager.
Sem. Jeo Reenan A. Vigo – Grade 9 - Basilikos

Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people
are fed, and where the individuals and nations are free. – Dalai Lama

Growing up as a kid, I encountered many situations involved with violence and hate. You may see
some headlines on broadcasting channels that are concerned with crimes involving war, killings,
and many more. In the quote above, it is stated that “ Peace can only last where human rights are
respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.”. I can
comprehend that peace would only exist in a world where there is justice and freedom for its
people. A world where great leaders try to improve the economy of countries, where all families
are prioritized and given care. Where voices of individuals would be heard for the greater good.
That would be an ideal world we could live in. As a teenager, I noticed many things that were hard
for me to understand. One thing would be is how the system of the world works. I once asked
myself, why do wars or violence exist? Why can’t they negotiate just to fix that problem rather than
resulting in great measures of violence? Each one of us desires peace for a better future for the
next generations. We have to make decisions in order to come up with a positive outcome to
impact our lives. Not all of us are privileged to have that freedom. We have to speak up not only for
ourselves but for everyone around us. We should be the ones making our own future the best it
could become.
