Reaction Paper: Discrimination Laws

NAME: Mary Joy N. Nieva SECTION: TOU 212

1. What were the work related discrimination issues discussed in the video?
Give a short description each.

ANSWER:
The first issue addressed in the film is unequal opportunities for
women, even if they possess similar or equal competencies and abilities to
their male counterparts. Also, there is a difference in their benefits, unequal
distribution of salaries. The second is for lesbians, bisexual women, and
transgender people. If you are a woman who may become pregnant or want
to have a kid, you may find it difficult to find work since businesses prefer
males who do not require maternity leave or paid leave after giving birth.
Finally, at the intersection of poverty and sexuality, if young LBTs are
bullied at school, they are more likely to drop out. They would not complete
their degrees, they would be unable to obtain better-paying positions, they
would work in the informal sector, or they would prefer to migrate to work
in another country.

2. What is your personal stand/ position on those issues raised in the video
based on your sexual orientation? Do you agree with what was stated?
Justify your answer.

ANSWER:
Some of the information that I heard in this video I did not know that
there is these kind of problems to the LBTs. It is my first time to know that
some employers do not hire a woman because they can produce a child and
they do not want to pay for their leave. It is very sad for me to watch this
video because as a woman and a student, I am preparing myself for my
future. Like the other woman, I need to find a work to sustain my needs. I
am not agreeing about these issues. We should all be equal. LBTs and even
LGBTQ community has a right to work in every sector. According to the
Women’s Human Rights, Women's rights are fundamental human rights that
were recognized by the United Nations approximately 70 years ago for every
human being on the globe. These rights include the freedom from violence,
enslavement, and discrimination; the right to an education; the right to
possess property; the right to vote; and the right to a fair and equitable
salary. Every woman and girl should be aware of the rights guaranteed by
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They also support other
important rights for women's equality. They support a woman's freedom to
choose whether or not to have children, as well as her right to high-quality
health care that ensures she does not die during pregnancy or childbirth.
They know that female genital mutilation is a violation of a girl's right to
privacy and that it must be stopped. They also support every woman's right
to live in equality and without discrimination, regardless of her sexuality or
identity. Woman, lesbians, transmen, and bisexuals has a right in this world.
