Nandawadagi Lift Irrigation Scheme

Design Conceptual Idea for converting from Drip to Surface irrigation

Sno Description Values
As designed for drip irrigation
1 Zone area considered 500 Ha
2 Total no of Sub-zones 10 nos
3 Sub Zone area considered 50 Ha
4 Intensity of Irrigation during Khariff 60%
5 Total No of Sub-zones irrigated in Khariff 6 nos
6 Total area of Sub-zones irrigated in Khariff 300 Ha
7 Flow Rate Designed for Drip irrigation with 5% additional discharge 71.97 m3/hr
8 Operation hours designed for drip irrigation 24 hrs
For Surface Irrigation
1 Operation hours designed for surface irrigation 12 hrs
2 Per day area irrigation under surface irrigation 25 Ha
3 Max Area irrigated in a day 150 Ha
4 Total Max area irrigated every alternate day 300 Ha
5 Flow rate available for surface irrigation 71.97 m3/hr
6 Max discharge required at zone level 431.81 m3/hr
7 Per hectare flow rate considering surface irrigation 2.88 m3/hr
34.545 m3/hr
8 Total water supplied per day for 12 hrs/Hectare
34545 Litres

Note** 1. Every day 25 Ha can be irrigated in a sub zone

2. The flow rate will be same as designed earlier for drip system.
3. Every Hectare recieves 34545 Litres alternate day.
4. Max area in Hectare irrigated in zone of 500Ha is 300Ha with alternate irrigation of 150ha/day.
which is inline with khariff itensity of 60%.
5. The flow rate available at 50Ha level is 71.97m3/hr
5. Total Flow rate for 500Ha will be 6*71.97 = 431.81m3/hr which is the flow rate equal to designed
flow rate upto 500ha with no deviation.
6. Max operation hours is equal to 12.00hrs/day.
7. The system can be operated for one or two hours more if required, thereby providing more
water/hectare.
Advantages
1. The operation hours is during day time which is viable for flood irrigation.
2. The operation hours is reduced to 12hrs per day, thereby considerable energy savings.
3. The quantity of water supplied per hectare is approx 35000litres Sufficient for agricultural crops
with alternate day irrigation.
4. The provision for water storage at farmer level is avoided.
5. The total water required with designed discharge remains same as designed for drip irrigation.
6. considerable reduction in pipe length required.
7. Reduction in the Solenoid valves used.
8. Single solenoid control at every 25Ha level, wherein the system shutsoff automatically after 12 hrs.
9. The project is viable without additional burden on KBJNL and farmer water is assured.
