Hi! In this video, we will look at the present simple tense. I’ll show you when to use
it and how to use it with the pronouns I, we, you and they. Are you ready? Let’s get
started.
We use the simple present tense for repeated actions. For example, I get up early
every day.
When the subject pronoun is I, We, You or They we use the pronoun plus the
activity verb to form an affirmative sentence:
For example, I play basketball. You have dinner at 7pm. We dance salsa. You
brush your teeth. They go to school.
To form a negative sentence, we use don’t plus the base verb. For example, I don’t
dance salsa. You don’t eat fish. We don’t get up at 6am. You don’t watch TV. They
don’t do homework.
And... what about questions? Questions have two forms: Yes/no questions and Wh-
questions.
To form a Yes/no question, we use Do plus the pronoun –I, We, You or They- plus
the activity verb. For example:
Do you play volleyball? Yes, I do.
Do they have lunch at 1pm? No, they don’t.
To form a Wh-question, we use when, where, what or how plus do plus the
pronoun - I, We, You or They- plus the activity verb. For example:
I get up at 6 am.
Now you know when to use the present simple tense and how to use it. You can
form affirmative sentences, negative sentences and questions. Remember that you
can always come back to this video to review this topic.
