EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND STATISTICS (for Masteral Students)

ADVANCED EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND STATISTICS (for PhD Students)

First Semester, S.Y. 2022-2023

A. COURSE INFORMATION
Description: This is a practicum research course that introduces the fundamentals of research and
understanding of research-based knowledge and principles of teaching and learning. It
will also provide elementary, secondary, tech-voc and tertiary teachers with an avenue to
conduct applied or action research on significant problems in their own classrooms/
schools that will provide empirical bases and research-based knowledge to improve
teaching and learning and make curricular as well as instructional decisions both school-
wide and at the classroom level.

Learning
Outcomes: At the end of the course, the graduate student will be able to:
 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research and how it can inform
classroom decisions and practices;
 demonstrate understanding of research-based knowledge and principles of
teaching and learning; and,
 apply the ability to use research as part of personal professional development
and reflective practice

Remarks: You may observe that the Lecture Notes, Activities and Written Exercises will be the same
for PhD and MA/MS classes. The difference will be the expectations from each group of
students. By philosophy, Masteral students are supposed to be mastering their field of
specialization while PhD students study problems and issues in education and find “cure”
to these (hence, a doctor). These attributes should be apparent from the works submitted
by each group of student.
