Introduction:
The compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens like molded cylinders and drilled
cores is measured according to ASTM C39. Only concrete with a unit weight huge than 50 lb/ft3
(800 kg/m3) is allowed to use it.
Molded cylinders or cores are subjected to a compressive axial load till failure. By dividing the
substantial force attained during the test by the specimen's cross-sectional area, the compressive
strength of the specimen is determined. The outcomes of this test procedure serve as the foundation
for concrete quality control.
Two steel bearing blocks, one of which is a spherically seated block that will bear on the upper
surface of the testing device and be capable of delivering the load rates specified in the standard.
II. Summary of Experiment:
Since the 3 trials, they have the difference of dimensions, because of the reasons: the alignment of
the molder is in a slant position, and dis-alignment of putting a cylinder concrete in a UTM so
loosen the force and then rapidly crack after a second. In trial 2 the results is less than a trials 1 &
3 so this concrete may contains more water so it weakens the strength of the concrete.
III. Data: Dimension of cylinder concrete: Diameter: 6 in.(152.4mm), Height: 12in. (304.8mm)
Trials Gauge Length (mm) Deformation (mm) Load (kN)
1 304.8 mm 210 mm 100.80 kN
2 304.8 mm 170 mm 25 kN
3 304.8 mm 160 mm 107 kN

V. Conclusion:
This experiment is more on analyzing and computing the amount of sand, gravel and cement based
on the ratio and the strength of the concrete, and putting the amount of water, the more of pouring
water, the more of weaken the strength of concrete.
VI. Things Learned from the Experiment:
It is difficult to calculate the percentage of each component that weakens the concrete in terms of
moisture content and the volume of air inside, and he makes a lot of requests. Exceptionally if you
work in the construction industry, it can be difficult to anticipate that if the combination is incorrect
and out of proportion to the strength of the final product, it will eventually crack, and you will be
held accountable.
