www.nike.com
Best Source means that the page is the best place to get the information given. It is published by
the person or organization who created the product/report/policy. Best Source will typically be
established organizations such as governments, scientific agencies, and official company websites.
Official site of a brand. When the information is about a specific brand, that brand’s website can
be considered Best Source.
High Authority
www.cnn.com
As a trusted news
source, CNN would
be High Authority.
High Authority sites are created by reputable organizations or individuals. Retailers that sell
products they do not manufacture, reputable news organizations, certain independent
journalists/commentators are High Authority.
Pages of Wikipedia or Amazon (or other retailers) are High Authority unless they are providing
information about their own original content or product.
Poor
www.eztv.tv
As a torrent site
that hosts
unauthorized
copyrighted
materials for
download, this
would be Poor.
Poor pages contain Harmful content such as racist language or hate speech, Adult content, or
promotes conspiracy theories or violence.
This would also include sites that host illegal/unauthorized content such as torrent sites. These
sites should be labeled as Poor regardless of the site’s reputation as this type of content would
outweigh any positive traits.
Unknown Authority
www.reddit.com
Unknown Authority should be used when the authority of the person or organization posting the
content cannot be determined.
Most content on websites that host User Generated Content will be of Unknown Authority.
(Exceptions detailed in the User Generated Content sections below)
User Generated Content (UGC)
www.youtube.com
User Generated Content (UGC) sites have the content created by the user. UGC sites would include
YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, and Wikipedia.
If a site is reputable and it reviews and/or moderates the content of the page, the authority of the
page is High. For example, users of Wikipedia review and monitor the content of the page. If a
person posts incorrect information other users can remove it.
In a forum page, users will discuss a topic. If the accepted answer is from a user who is verified by
the site as an expert on the topic of the forum, the page is High Authority.
The judging of any YouTube video should be based on who is posting the video and the reputation
they have on the subject which the video is on. For example, a video by a famous chef would have
high authority if it was about cooking but unknown authority if it was about cryptocurrency.
If the video was created by YouTube (YouTube Original Content) then we can consider it Best
Source.
