This pattern politely expresses a hope, a wish, or a request.

希望我们有机会能再合作。
Xīwàng wǒmen yǒu jīhuì néng zài hézuò .
I hope we have another opportunity to work together.

我们当然希望⽣意能再好⼀点。
Wǒmen dāngrán xīwàng shēngyì néng zài hǎo yìdiǎn.
Of course we hope that business can be even better.

董事长希望⼯厂的产量能再⾼⼀点。
Dǒngshìzhǎng xīwàng gōngchǎng de
chǎnliàng néng zài gāo yìdiǎn.
The board chairman hopes that factory
production can be a bit higher.

someone 跟 someone V

This structure expresses something happening, or being done


with another person or party; in this case cooperating.
The preposition 跟 introduces somebody one can do
something with. 跟 appears before the VP as do all
prepositional phrases in Chinese.

我们不打算跟这个公司合作。
Wǒmen bù dǎsuàn gēn zhè ge gōngsī hézuò .
We plan not to work together with this company.

你要跟董事长去参加今天晚上的饭局吗?
Nǐ yào gēn dǒngshìzhǎng qù cānjiā
jīntiān wǎnshàng de fànjú ma?
Do you want to go with the board chairman to
participate in tonight’s dinner?

这次的销售情况不好,我们需要跟⼏位经理谈谈。
Zhè cìde xiāoshòu qíngkuàng bù hǎo,
wǒmen xūyào gēn jǐ wèi jīnglǐ tántán.
The current sales situation is not good,
we need to discuss it with several managers.

如果 V 的话, ……
If…then…

如果 presents the condition, the second clause presents the


consequence. 的话 can be omitted. The meaning is the
same as 如果, while in spoken language, 的话 occurred a lot.

如果销售好的话,我们⼀定会增加订货量。
Rúguǒ xiāoshòu hǎo dehuà, wǒmen
yídìng huìzēngjiā dìnghuò liàng.
If sales are good, we will definitely
increase the order amount.

如果⼀切顺利的话,三月⼗五号可以出货。
Rúguǒ yíqiè shùnlìdehuà,
sān yuè shíwǔ hào kěyǐ chūhuò.
If everything goes smoothly, the shipments
will go out March 15th.

如果要取消订单的话,请在⼀个星期以前通知我们。
Rúguǒ yào qǔxiāo dìngdān dehuà,
qǐng zài yíge xīngqīyǐqián tōngzhī wǒmen.
If you want to cancel an order,
please inform us a week in advance.

在 something 上
as far as… is concerned

This grammar pattern mostly stresses the on top of that / in


addition to. This pattern restricts the relevance of the main
predicate of the sentence. In most cases, what comes
between 在 and 上 is a noun. 在 of this pattern can be
omitted, but 上 is an obligatory element.

这家公司的产品在价格上虽然比较贵,但是质量也比较好。
Zhè jiā gōngsī de chǎnpǐn zài jiàgé shàng suīrán
bǐjiào guì, dànshìzhìliàng yě bǐjiào hǎo.
Although with regards to price, this company’s product
is more expensive, but the quality is also better.

在公司的经营管理上,你应该多听听员⼯的意见。
Zài gōngsī de jīngyíng guǎnlǐ shàng,
nǐ yīnggāi duō tīngtīng yuángōng de yìjiàn.
As far as company management is concerned,
you should listen more to the opinions of the workers.

中国⼈在习惯上都是先吃饭再喝汤。你们呢?
Zhōngguó rén zài xíguàn shàng dōu shì
xiān chīfàn zài hētāng. Nǐmen ne?
In terms of Chinese custom, people always first
eat the meal, then drink soup. What about you?

Yuēhàn Gāozǒng, nín hǎo.
John Good day, Mr. Gao.

GM Gao Hello John, nice to see you again. Please have a seat.

John Mr. Gao, we’ve really been promoting your company’s product a lot
lately and it’s going quite well. Basically we’re going to need more
from your company next month!

Gāo zǒng Nà hěn hǎo a, nǐ hǎo, wǒ hǎo, dàjiā dōu hǎo.
GM Gao Well that's great! When business is good for you, business is good
for me and everybody’s happy!

Yuēhàn Jiù shìa, chǎnpǐn hǎo, wǒmen shuāngfāng pèihé de yě hǎo. Jiù shì
bù zhīdào xiànzài gōngchǎng xiànzài de chǎnliàng zěnmeyàng?
John Exactly! It’s also because your product is great, and we have a great
working relationship! May I ask, how is your factory’s current output ?

⾼总 我们下个月的产量应该还能增加20%。
Gāo zǒng Wǒmen xià ge yuè de chǎnliàng yīnggāi hái néng zēngjiā bǎi fēn zhī
èrshí.
GM Gao Well, I’d say next month’s output can probably increase 20%.

Yuēhàn Tài hǎo le, wǒmen dìngdān kěnéng yào zēngjiā bǎi fēn zhī shíwǔ.
John That’s great, because we’re hoping to increase our order by 15%.

Gāo zǒng Wǒ xiǎng méi yǒu wèntí.
GM Gao I’m sure it won’t be a problem.

Yuēhàn Zhèyàng dehuà, wǒmen xūyào nǐ gěi xīn de bàojià, wǒmen gōngsī

John Alright, with this being the case, we’d really like if we could get new,
and a little more favorable pricing from your company.

Gāo zǒng Zhè yǒu diǎn nán, wǒmen de jiàgé yǐjīng yā de hěn dī le.
GM Gao That’s going to be a bit hard. We’ve already set our price quite low.

Yuēhàn Wǒ liǎojiě. Wǒmen fēicháng kànzhò ng gēn nǐmen de hézuò , dànshì
xīwàng jiàgé yídìng yào xiàlái.
John I understand. We really value the great relationship we have with
your company, but we’d be happier if we could get just a little more
of a break here.

⾼总 好,这样吧,如果你能保证你们的订单量增加15%的话,我们可以在单价
上再减5元。
Gāo zǒng Hǎo, zhèyàng ba, rúguǒ nǐ néng bǎozhèng nǐmen de dìngdānliàng
zēngjiā bǎi fēn zhī shíwǔ dehuà, wǒmen kěyǐ zài dānjià shàng zài jiǎn
wǔ yuán.
GM Gao Ok, if your company can guarantee us that your order will actually
increase 15%, then we can give you a 5 yuan discount per piece.

yuán.
GM Gao Fine, we’ve been partners for so long, I promise you I’ll cut 7 yuan
per piece.

约翰 那太好了,谢谢⾼总,那我们的单价减七元, 所以是四⼗三元⼀件。
Yuēhàn Nà tài hǎo le, xièxie Gāo zǒng, nà wǒmen de dānjià jiǎn qī yuán,

John That is super! Thank you Mr. Gao. We’ve cut the price by 7 yuan, so
that means 43 yuan per unit.
