TOPIC:

WATER, SOIL, CLIMATE, AND OTHER FACTORS RELEVANT

TO FRUITS AND TREE CROPS GROWTH

OBJECTIVES:

• Identify the factors affecting fruits and tree crops growth;

• Discuss how these factors ensure the growth of fruits and tree crops
• Differentiate the kinds of soil according to their texture
• Appreciate one’s effort in promoting growth of fruits and tree crops.

LESSON PROPER:

FACTORS TO ENSURE THE GROWTH OF FRUITS AND TREE CROPS:

TOPOGRAPHY
- Land where fruits and tree crops are planted must have a good drainage system.
WATER
- Serves as a distributor of food from the soil to the finest roots of plants, its adequate supply must be
assured.
CLIMATE
- The ability of crops to yield a bountiful harvest is not a matter of luck.
SUNLIGHT
- A planting site, where sunlight is available, should be selected for benefits of plants.
SOIL FERTILITY
- Provides the plants with necessary heat, air, water, and nutrients.

CLASSIFICATION OF SOIL ACCORDING TO TEXTURE:

LOAM
- It has fine grain with compost materials and an even mixture of different grades of sand, soil and clay.
CLAY
- Fine-textured soil that forms hard lumps when dry and it is quite moldable, sticky when wet.
SAND
- Loose-and –grained soil that can be seen or felt by grains or particles.
SILT
- Soil, which is intermediate in particle size. It’s characteristics are between sand and clay.

SILT LOAM
- Soil having a small amount of the fine grades of sand and clay.
SANDY LOAM
- Contains much sand with enough silt and clay to make it somewhat coherent.
