The Information Age

Which developments in the information age brought significant changes in the way
you live your life today?

- The information age provided us with a multitude of important items that we

needed in our daily lives. With just a touch of a finger, we don’t have to waste time
traveling to a library to find information material. One of these is the development
of broadcasting media, the internet, and smart devices, which have revolutionized
the way people interact and brought changes in the way people live their lives
today. Especially with mobile phones, we do not have to use a conventional camera,
telephone, printed photographs, cassette player, radio, alarm clock, flashlight, paper
post cards and greeting cards, hand-held gaming device-Gameboy, I-pod, books, e-
reader, TV, personal organizer, navigation device and a document scanner since all
of this can be a specialized feature in a smartphone.
How did the transmission of information evolve from the ancient times up to the
present?

-Information communication has evolved since ancient times, as we today use a

variety of sophisticated technologies to communicate with others, while in the past,
pigeons and humans were used to communicate.
Prehistoric Age
Oral transmission was the primary mode of knowledge transmission for ancient
people. They sing songs to pass on their traditions and cultural knowledge. They
also learn to write in calligraphy and cuneiform, among other writing systems. This
is also the period when people first discovered fire. They created paper from plants
using fire, which they used to store information.
Industrial Age
This was the period when people invented machine tools and manufactured a wide
range of goods. The use of the printing press, which resulted in the mass production
of books and other reading materials, was an integral part of this period. As a result,
awareness is spread through the mass processing of reading materials.
Electronic Age
People in this day and age make extensive use of electricity. As a result, early
computers and telephones were used. During this time, long-distance
information transfer became possible.

New (Digital) Age

In this age, people invented personal computers, mobile devices, the internet,
etc. Through internet, communication and transfer of information became
faster. Social networking sites became an integral part of people's lives and it
is also through this that we can share and be fed with information in real time.
As a student, how will you use social media to ensure that you do not propagate
inaccurate and unreliable information?

-As a student, I will use social media to ensure I do not propagate inaccurate and
unreliable information by avoiding spreading fake news and facts, we can only share
content from reliable and well-known outlets. Big names in the news and
advertising industry are among the sources. We should not rely solely on what we
see on social media; instead, we should verify whether or not what we see is
accurate, and a good way to do so is to read newspapers and articles from reputable
sources and use fact-checker sites that anyone can use. We should not trust
anything we see on the internet because some of it is deceptive and fraudulent. A
few seconds or minutes of research are worth it, you’ll never know how harmful a
tiny, inaccurate, and unreliable piece of information could become. We should
always remember that we must be responsible and always think before we click.
