● How would they be informed now?

Considering our generation's information is all dependent on social media

and technology, if one day, if all forms of media, internet, and communication

were to disappear suddenly, it would be challenging for us to keep up with the

pace of change. We may still go back to our previous style of informing people

when we acquire information. However, we would have to adopt the traditional

method of communication to keep people informed about local events and news.

Even if we lose technology, such as the internet, television, and even radio, our

communication through words is already indelible. For example, in our

community, it would be essential to establish a network of communication with

our immediate neighbors like word-of-mouth and face to face communication.

Patrols are also one of the means to get information so another example would

be public announcements like memorandum and letters.

● How would they communicate their news, facts, and events?

People could genuinely transmit news, data, and events in discussions

and gatherings back when the sophisticated technology we have today was not

really prevalent. The authority figure of a community is often held accountable for

genuine information and news, he is also the one who disseminates critical

information throughout the constituency to avoid the development of

misinformation. Before the advent of the internet, technology, and cell phones,

people communicated by writing letters and sending emails. Another alternative

method is bulletin boards in public spaces and regular community gatherings to

directly share news, announcements and updates within the neighborhood.

● What would happen with the decisions you usually make?

When you hear something firsthand and experience the situation, it’s easy

to believe it’s true. In a particular issue, my opinion would be based on my

personal experience. It may be slower and less convenient, but still useful in

disseminating important information. However, it will mostly depend on the facts

presented by those who are trusted and are in the higher standing in society

while applying the best judgements on the facts being communicated to us.

● What would you - personally - most miss in such a situation?

To be honest, we are all living because of technology, the internet, and

social media. In my point of view, a day without it is a day as if you were dead. In

our generation, we are so used to the idea that we have to rely on the internet.

Without the internet, we would feel disconnected from the world around us. In our

houses, especially when there is no wifi or when there is no electricity, we all

complain about things, especially because there is no wifi. We all depend on our

decision in life on our gadgets, that's why many people nowadays are depressed

and many are not satisfied with life because of what they see on social media

that they also want to have. People's lives become the standard of others even

though they know they cannot afford it and we know that we have our own

abilities and privileges in life. Although we value the convenience and

connectivity technology provides, traditional methods of communication hold a

greater personal significance for us.

● What would society lose with this kind of problem?

The loss of media, rates, internet, and cell phones would necessitate

relying solely on our own brains for information because these mediums provide

our society with a wealth of information and entertainment.

● Examples of Media’s Absence

While the media's absence in today’s time would essentially cause a worldwide

crisis of catastrophic proportions, humanity and civilization has not always relied on

these mediums of broadcasting and communication for disseminating information

towards all. In fact, the world’s first civilizations thousands of years ago have flourished

and prospered by using the most limited and traditional forms of media, mainly through

word of mouth and through the use of natural resources found during those ages.

During the time of the Greek and Roman empires during the 1st century B.C and A.D,

the people only used papyrus rolls as a means of writing letters and memorandums to

each other. According to the LA times, uncovered artifacts dating back to those periods

were letters by government officials that were written on papyrus, with some even

addressing leaders such as Julius Caesar.

Aside from papyrus, the most famous medium of media dissemination from those

times was verbal communication. It was also during these times of the mighty European

empires that debates, forums, and town gatherings were the main spots for giving out

all new information and news to all the citizens. While it remains to be said if all
information spread by word of mouth were truthful and honest, word and happenings

were quickly spread by speakers and runners who work nonstop to spread information

to everyone.
