Lesson idea implementation:

Starting with my own PowerPoint presentation of Mona the Moon I will introduce the lesson.
BrainPOP will be used as support in addition to the lesson before giving students the freedom
to choose their presentation type. Students will have the choice of presentation type to
present what they learned with Earth, Sun, and Moon positioning see from Earth as well as
the phases of the Moon in relation to the Earth and Sun as well. They will utilize the
technology in class as they will be allowed time to work on the presentation in class.
Feedback will be provided in the form of a rubric with a grade as a summative assessment.
The conclusion of the lesson will be with students presenting their projects and
communicating what they have learned through the project.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
There will be time limits to allow students to have access to BrainPOP as well as to look up
information and pictures for their presentation. I will allow collaboration for the
brainstorming of their projects with students understanding that the presentations must be
their own ideas and creation. They will have time-on-task to complete their brainstorming as
well as starting their presentations. Some ways I can keep students on task is to ask questions
to each student asking what their ideas are, what they learned, and what type of tool they
want to use for their presentation.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
The PowerPoint presentation include both subtitles in Spanish for Spanish speaking students,
and audio for students with a sight impairment. There are pictures that also support students
with any cognitive dysfunction as well as ELL students. The words typed in the slides are in
English but support possible hearing-impaired students who cannot hear the audio. This
presentation supports Action and Expression UDL framework by using a project with creative
expression catered to each individual student. Meaning, each student will have their own
voice of Action and Expression in their presentation and content in the presentation.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I feel students will hopefully be excited to learn about moon phases. I look forward to seeing
what type of tools students use for their presentation as well as seeing their creativity in their
project. To be able to see students’ personalities in their presentation is another reason why I
want to be a teacher.
