1. What is the meaning of the acronym ARPANET?

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was the first
wide-area packet-switching network with distributed control and the first
network to implement the TCP/IP protocol suite.

2. What is the main function of a SWITCH on a network?

The basic function that any switch is supposed to perform is to receive
information from any source connected to it and dispatch that information to the
appropriate destination only. This thing differentiates switches from hubs. Hub
gets the information and forwards that to every other device in the network.

3. Define backbone
A portion of a computer network that is capable of carrying the majority of traffic
on the network at high speeds. The backbone often connects large networks or
companies together.

4. It is Ethernet an invent? Define it

Ethernet is a way of connecting computers together in a local area network or
LAN. It has been the most widely used method of linking computers together in
LANs since the 1990s. The basic idea of its design is that multiple computers
have access to it and can send data at any time.
Ethernet is a fast and reliable network solution that is still widely used today.

5. A protocol is a set of rules, based on this premise What is TCP/IP?

Transmission control protocol/Internet protocol, TCP/IP is a set of rules
(protocols) governing communications among all computers on the Internet.
More specifically, TCP/IP dictates how information should be packaged (turned
into bundles of information called packets), sent, and received, as well as how
to get to its destination.

6. What is the SSL protocol?

The Secure Sockets Layer(SSL) it's the standard technology for keeping an
internet connection secure and safeguarding any sensitive data that is being
sent between two systems, preventing criminals from reading and modifying
any information transferred, including potential personal details.

7. Make a list with 5 verbs used in this article and his definition. Quote the
sentences from the article where you found them.(Do not use verb to be as
examples, try to look for non common verbs. It doesn’t matter the tense; the
important thing is those verbs are indicating an action, acting or functioning as
verbs)
1) Develop - grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or
elaborate.
HTML
In 1990, while working at CERN, Tim Berners-Lee develops HTML, which
made a huge contribution to how we navigate and view the Internet today.
The first website, info.cern.ch, is developed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN
and published online on August 6, 1991.

2) Still - make or become still; quieten.

TCP/IP is created
In 1978, TCP splits into TCP/IP, driven by Danny Cohen, David Reed, and
John Shoch to support realtime traffic. The creation of TCP/IP help create
UDP and is later standardized into ARPANET on January 1, 1983. Today,
TCP/IP is still the primary protocol used on the Internet.

3) Suggest – put forward for consideration.

TIMELINE
1962 Paul Baran suggested transmission of data using fixed size message
blocks in 1962.

4) Coin – invent or devise (a new word or phrase).

TIMELINE
1965 Donald Davies coined the word "Packet."

5) Submit - present (a proposal, application, or other document) to a person or

body for consideration or judgment.
TIMELINE
1989 On March 12, 1989, Tim Berners-Lee submitted a proposal for a
distributed system at CERN, which would later become the WWW.

8. Create a comparative chart about the 4 browsers more used (Edge, Opera,
Chrome, Mozilla, Safari)
Using these criteria to make the comparison:
a. Speed

c. disk space usage
d. Security/ privacy
e. Ease of use.
