Narrative Discussion of Topic:

The content of this presentation will be about Rizal's grand tour in Europe with Viola,
wherein they visited a lot of places and met several people, and Rizal's first homecoming in
the Philippines. In this presentation, we will discuss how Rizal and Viola traveled around
Europe, what places they visited and who were the people they met, and their experience
while they were on tour. We will also be tackling the reasons why Rizal decided to go home.

In the first part, Rizal's grand tour in Europe with Viola, the tour began on May 11, 1887, Dr.
Jose Rizal and Viola left Berlin, and they were on their way to Dresden using a train as their
transpiration vehicle. Upon arriving at Dresden, they visited Dr. Adolf B. Meyer. Also, they
saw an art Museum and a painting entitled "Prometheus Bound," which caught Rizal's
attention, and he was deeply impressed. They also visited a floral exhibit and met Dr. Jagor.

Their next destination was Leitmeritz, and they arrived on May 15, 1887. Here, they attended
a meeting of the Tourist's Club of Leitmeritz. Also, they visited his favorite friend Blumentritt
who introduced Jose Rizal to the Burgomaster of the town and saw some famous sights. On
May 16, 1887, Rizal and Viola left Leitmeritz by train. According to Viola, after leaving
Leitmeritz, they arrived in Prague, but nothing significant happened.

On May 20, 1887, Jose Rizal and Viola arrived in the City of Vienna. In Vienna, they met
Norfenfals, a great novelist known in Europe, and they also visited some sights like churches,
art galleries, public parks, museums, and theatres. On May 24, 1887, Rizal and Viola left
Vienna on a riverboat. During their departure, they noticed a passenger using a paper napkin
instead of cloth, and they recognized it as a novelty.

They also visited Rheinfall in Switzerland, a famous and most powerful waterfall in Europe.
They had a side trip before arriving at Rheinfall, they stopped over in Munich and tasted a
renowned beer in Germany. They also visited the Cathedral of Ulm, the largest and tallest
cathedral in Germany, and their last destination was Rheinfall.

June 2-3, 1887, they stayed at Schaffhausen, Switzerland, before continuing their tour in
Basel, Bern, and Lausanne. They also crossed a foggy Leman Lake to Geneva. They went to
"The Swiss City," the most beautiful city in Europe. Rizal and Viola lasted 15 days in
Geneva.

June 19, 1887, they celebrated Viola's 26th birthday, and Rizal treated him.

June 23, 1887, Viola and Rizal parted ways. Viola returned to Barcelona while Rizal
continued his tour in Italy.

Rizal's homecoming was due to the following reasons: Noli Me Tangere's uproar, to operate
his Mother's eye, to serve people, find out how Noli and his other works affect the Filipinos
and Spaniards, and to inquire why Leonor remained silent.

July 29, 1887, he announced his homecoming.

July 3, 1887, Rizal boarded the steamer Djemnah.

July 30, 1887, Rizal transferred to another steamer, which was bound to Manila.
