indigenous peoples' culture via song and dance, native goods, ethnic games, and a
variety of athletic contests and special events.
KAHIMUNAN FESTIVAL OF BUTUAN CITY
The festival is strongly associated with the Santo Niño, and its underlying
indigenous root is indicative of the etymology of "kahimunan," a Manobo term meaning
"to gather." It also refers to a series of rituals performed at the start of the planting
season among Agusan's lumadnon, and is also known as the full moon festival.
Chanting, singing, and playing indigenous musical instruments such as gimbor (drums),
gong, and bamboo percussions such as kalatong/karatong and kotik are part of the rite.
