• Standard 6 Modular sealer construction allows tool-less removal of parts for quick cleaning and
maintenance.
• Fully automatic strapping machine for polypropylene strapping.
• Tension loss minimal by placing sealer closer to conveyor table.
• Strap Tension adjustable in 1% increments from 10-60 lbs.
• Bundles convey on conveyor table.

• Hinged roller conveyors remove for servicing.

General Safety Instructions
Key Rules
• Before start-up, read the operating and safety instructions.
• Always keep the operation instructions within easy reach at the side of the machine/system.
• Observe the maintenance schedules specified or described in the operating instructions.
• The machine is built in accordance with state of the art technology and the accepted rules of industrial
safety. Yet, danger to life and limb of the operator or third person, as well as damage to the machine
and other resources, may still occur.
• Operate this machine/system only while it is in perfect condition and in accordance with the
specifications contained in this manual.
• Be aware of hazards and safety issues and adhere to these operating instructions.
Immediately Correct Any Malfunctions That Could Prove Detrimental To Safety, Or Have
! Someone Else Correct It.
Organizational Measures
• In addition to the operating instruction, observe and teach generally applicable legal and other binding
regulations for the prevention of accidents and for the protection of the environment.
• All operating personnel must wear protective hair covering to contain long hair; no loose clothing or
jewelry, including rings, may be worn. Injury may result from getting caught or pulled by the
machinery.
• Whenever necessary, or as required by regulation, use personal protective gear.
• Observe all safety and warning labels on the machine.
• Maintain all safety and warning labels on the machine in legible condition.
• Do not let personnel with general training operate the machine/system, except under the constant
supervision of and experienced operator.
• Any work on electrical components of the machine/system may be performed only by a qualified
electrician or by trained personnel under the direction and supervision of a qualified electrician and in
accordance with applicable electric codes.

Safety Regulations for Specific Operational Phases
• Refrain from any work practice that may be unsafe.
• Make sure that the machine/system is operated in safe and good working order.
Do Not Operate The Machine Unless All Protective And Safety Devices Such As Removable
! Machine Guards, Emergency Shut Off Switches And Vacuum Systems Are In Place And In
Working Order.
• At least once during each shift, you should check the machine for any external damages and defects.
Any changes (including changes in performance) must promptly be reported to the competent
department/person. If necessary, immediately stop and secure the machine.
• Before you put the machine/system in operation, make sure that no one is put at risk by the machine
during start-up.
• Inform operating personnel before you begin to perform any special or maintenance work.
Designate a supervisor.
• If necessary, clear and secure a space around the area where maintenance is being performed.
• Always tighten any screw connections which were loosened during maintenance or repairs,
reassembly and inspection of the safety devices must ensue immediately after completion of such
maintenance and repair work.
• Should safety devices have to be dismantled during set-up, maintenance or repair, reassembly and
inspection of the safety devices must ensue immediately after completion of such maintenance and
repair work.
• Provide for the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of operating and auxiliary materials, as
well as spare parts.
• Before moving a machine, always check that all accessories are securely stored.
• Discontinue any work practice that could destabilize the machine.
• Keep off conveyors.

Precautions Against Particular Hazards
Electric Energy
• Use only original fuses with the specified amperage! If a breakdown of the electrical power supply
should occur, the machine must be shut down immediately.
• Work on any electrical system or equipment, may be performed only by a qualified electrician or by
trained personnel under the direction and supervision of a qualified electrician and in accordance
with electrical codes.
• If so specified, machine and system components that are to be inspected, maintained or repaired must
be switched to zero voltage. Any such disconnected components must first be examined for voltage
leaks, then grounded and shorted, while adjoining voltage carrying components must be insulated.
• The electrical equipment of the system/machine must be inspected/tested regularly. Defects, such
as loose connections or damaged cables must be eliminated.
• Should it become necessary to perform work on live components, a second person must be added to
work at the emergency shut-off switch or the master switch. Close off the work area with red and white
chain, and put up a warning sign.
! Use only insulated tools!
• When working on high voltage units, disconnect from voltage, ground power supply cable and short
components, such as capacitors with a grounding rod.
• Carefully remount and refasten any components that were disconnected during transport before
returning the machine to service.
• Even minor changes in location require that the machine or the system be disconnected from each
external energy source.
• Before the machine is returned to operation, it must be properly reconnected to its power source.

The Following List Of Safety Instructions Must Be Read Before Operating The Strapping
! Machine Or The Strapping System.
Miscellaneous Instructions
• Please observe the accident prevention regulations as well as the safety and protection
recommendations of the trade or professional associations.
• The machine may only be used in accordance with regulations.
• If safety changes should occur in the machine/system or its performance, the machine/system must
be stopped immediately and the competent person/department must be informed of the problem.
Operation
• Machines may only be operated by trained personnel.
• Training of the customer’s operating personnel is available by EAM-MOSCA Customer Service.
• The hazard zone is off limits.
• Keep off conveyors.
• Keep all safety and hazard warnings on the machine/system in legible condition.
• Do not reach into a machine that is running.
• Never step into or under lifting devices.
• After closing time, always shut the machine down by turning the main switch off.
Safety Devices
• Emergency-off switches must never be by-passed or deactivated.
• Do not undertake any alterations, additions or modifications to the machine/system that could affect
safety without authorization from the supplier. This also applies to the installation and the adjustment
of safety devices and safety valves and to any machining of load-bearing parts.
• Do not operate the machine/system unless all protective devices and security features, such as
removable protection devices and emergency-off devices are in place and functional.
• If safety devices should have to be dismantled during set-up, maintenance, or repairs, reassembly
and inspection of the safety devices must ensue immediately after completion of such maintenance
and repair work.

! Machine Or The Strapping System.
Repair
• Before any tune-up or repair work can be performed, the machine must be disconnected from the
mains and secured against unauthorized reconnection.
• Tools and single components should not be place on or in the machine.
• When replacing any parts of the system, components and larger units must be carefully attached to
hoisting equipment in a way that precludes any hazards.
• Use only suitable and mechanically sound hoisting equipment as well as lifting devices with sufficient
load bearing capacity.
• Never stand or work under suspended loads.
• Components must meet the manufacturer’s technical specifications. This is guaranteed when using
genuine replacement parts from the manufacturer.
Electrical Equipment
• Work on any electrical installations of the machine/system may only be performed by a qualified
electrician or by trained personnel under the direction and supervision of a qualified electrician and in
accordance with electrical codes.
• Machine/system components undergoing maintenance or repairs must be disconnected from their

power source and closed off.
• The electrical equipment of a machine/system must be inspected/tested regularly. Defects, such as

loose connections, damaged cables and defective devices must immediately be eliminated.
• If work needs to be done on live components, a second person must be added to work the

Safe Operating Principles
Description of Safety Arrangements

• When moving the machine on level ground release both caster brakes to position the machine.
When machine is in position make sure to lock both caster brakes.
• With power on, the machine and main switch Q1 on, the machine will be operational after
approximately 1 minute of heat-up time.
• The machine operation is stopped by any of the following:
Activating the Emergency Stop S19 or S19.1
Lifting the table 3-5mm releases safety interlock S18.
Opening the front door releases safety interlock S17.
Opening the dispenser drawer releases safety interlock S1.
Low air pressure detected by S14 air pressure switch.
• Compactor will return to its up position when:
The machine cycle is interrupted
A safety switch is activated
Power loss to the machine
• The press valve Y7 and Y7.1, and backstop valve Y8 are deactivated when:
The conveyor is lifted.
Opening the guard door and tripping S25, S26, S27 or S28.
An emergency stop is activated while the machine is cycling.

Strap Spool Installing and Threading
! Caution: Install The Strap Spool So That It Unwinds In The Direction Of The Arrows
1. Turn machine to the ON position.

2. Turn knob (A) counterclockwise and remove dispenser cover (B).
3. Place the strap spool on the dispenser and make sure it unwinds in the direction of arrows.
4. Replace the dispenser cover (B) and tighten knob (A).
5. Remove all tape and straps from the strap spool.
6. Press the Brake Release Button (C) to allow the spool to spin freely, unwinding approximately
19.5[50cm] of strap.
7. Thread strap through guide (D) over roller (E), and into the strap guide opening until you feel
resistance.
8. Push down lever (H) and feed more strap between rollers.
9. Release lever (H).
10. Push the “Automatic On” push button.
11. Strap will be threaded automatically into the accumulator and is now ready for operation.

Strap Threading Instructions for Optional Dual Dispenser
! Caution: Install The Strap Spool So That It Unwinds In The Direction Of The Arrows
1. Turn machine to the ON Position.

2. Turn knob (A) counterclockwise and remove dispenser cover (B)
3. Place the strap spool on the dispenser and make sure it unwinds in the direction of the arrows.
19.5in[50cm] of strap.
7. Use the following guide to thread the strap end depending on if it’s the Left or Right Hand Dispenser.
Next thread strap through Guide (D) over Roller (E) and into the strap guide opening until you feel
resistance.

Preventive Maintenance
1. Clean the exhaust fan periodically.
2. Keep the inside of the machine clean and in order to see possible damage to cables or sensors.
3. Clean out the inner strap track area periodically and lubricate the linkages with light oil.
4. Make sure to clean regularly as per instruction.
5. Work on the electrical control system must only be done by qualified personnel.

• With careful maintenance the strapping machine is kept in optimum operating condition.
• Keep the strap drive and sealer clean and free of paper, dust and strap pieces.

Maintenance Instructions

Operating and Functional Description
Coil Starting
1. Before connecting machine to a 3-phase system, makes sure the machine is set to proper voltage.
Transformer (T1) primary can be connected for 220V, 260V, 400V, 440V, 500V and 530V (+/-20V)
i.e. 480V=> 500V-20V.
Example: If the machine is connected to a 480V. outlet, (T1) should be set with 1 line to 500V. and the
other line to -20V.
2. Connect the machine and turn the main switch (Q1) on. Power On Indicator (H1) will flash until
pressed.
Note: If The Machine Is In By-pass Mode, The Conveyor Will Start Immediately, When Power On or
Automatic On Push Button Is Pressed.
3. Check for strap, if none install the strap spool and thread the strap as indicated in the threading
diagram. See Strap Spool Installing and Threading on page 2-2
4. Push Automatic On push button: The accumulator fill motor and strap drive start. Strap is fed
automatically up into the strap drive and through the sealing unit into the track. The strap drive
motor turns off. The accumulator fill motor continues to run until sensor B8 activates indicating
that the accumulator is full of strap.
5. Strap feed motor starts and feeds strap around the track until sensor (B1) activates, indicating
strap is in the sealing unit. Strap drive motor stops and automatic on indicator activates.
Note: If Machine Is In Automatic Mode, The Conveyor Will Start Immediately, When Automatic On
Push Button Is Pressed.
6. After approximately one minute, the heater will reach weld temperature, and the machine will be
ready for strapping.
7. If automatic mode is not already selected, use selector switch to choose automatic mode. The
conveyor will start and is now ready for automatic operation.
Pullback
8. When the strap cycle is started (by photo-eye, footswitch etc.), the sealer motor turns the sealer cam
shaft to pullback position. While the sealer is rotating to pullback:
a. The right gripper moves up to hold the end of the strap.
b. The track opens to release the strap.
9. The sealer stops in pullback position after cam flag 2 activates, then passes the B13.1 sensor.
10. The pullback motor starts pulling the strap down around the bundle. Pullback continues until an
internal timer times out.
a. The tension motor also starts so that it is up to speed when pullback is completed.
Tension
11. When pullback is complete, the sealer turns to tension position. While the sealer is rotating:
The tension arm is cammed up to cause the tension rollers to nip the strap.
13. Tension is pulled until:
a. A tension complete signal is given by the controller sensing the tension motor beginning
to stall
b. An internal timer times out.

Strap Melt (Optional)
14. When tension is complete, the sealer turns to “strap melt” position. While the sealer is rotating:
The left gripper moves up to hold the strap in place.
The tension arm moves down to disengage the tension motor.
The tension motor stops.
The heater moves in between the opposing strap surfaces.
The knife gripper moves up to cut the strap and hold the strap against the heater to melt the strap
surface.
15. The sealer stops in strap melt position after cam flag 4 activates, then passes the B13.1 sensor.
16. The sealer stays in “strap melt” position until an internal timer times out.
Weld Cool
17. When “strap melt” is complete, the sealer turns to weld cooling position:
The knife gripper moves down.
The heater moves out
The knife gripper moves back up to hold the ends of the strap together.
19. While the sealer shaft is stationary in weld cooling position the melted strap surfaces are pressed
together for a preset time.
20. The sealer stays in weld cooling position until an internal timer times out.
Return to Home Position

21. When the weld cooling is complete, the sealer turns to home position. While the sealer is rotating:
All three grippers move down.
The upper slide plate pulls back, allowing the strap to snap free of the sealer and up against
the bundle.
The track and slide plate close, activating the B11 sensor.
22. The sealer stops in home position after cam flag 1 activates, then passes the B13.1 sensor.
23. When the B11 and B13 sensors are both activated, the strap drive feeds strap around the track until
the B1 sensor signals feed completion.

Control Panel - Strapping Screen
The strapping screen allows you to select
strap placement on a bundle in Automatic
Mode. This screen also shows what current
strapping picture the machine is in.
Note: Basic machines will always have Bypa

ss mode and Strapping 1 - 3.
Note: When learn mode button is pressed

the side conditioners and backstop open
fully.
Control Panel - Learn Mode
Learn Mode is used to determine the width

and length of the bundle while in automatic
mode.
Learn Mode can be set one of two ways:

First way is to enter the bundle dimensions
manually by pressing the bundle dimension
buttons on the screen. Second is to wait for
the next bundle to enter the machine, the
side conditioners will close and the bundle
width and length will automatically be loaded
into the bundle picture dimension data.
Control Panel - Learn Mode for small bundles
Learn mode with small bundle feature. This

is only available on machines equipped with
the optional small bundle assembly.
Note: When in small bundle learn mode the

side conditioners and backstop will come in
to detect the width and length of the bundle.

Control Panel - Strapping Picture Edit Screen
In User Level 2 or higher, the edit buttons
become available, which allow you to edit
the strapping picture. When the edit button
is pressed, the following screen will appear,
allowing you to add strap placements (by
pressing the “Add” Button), and enter the
bundle dimensions.
When you press the “Add” button you will be
able to select strap placement types as
needed.
Control Panel - Strap Placement Screen
A “Stop Position” is a location on the bundle

(with respect to the strap line) where the
conveyor will stop in order for the machine to
perform some action. This is usually to place a
strap, but it can also be defined as a squaring
only position.
To define a stop position, you select the type of

position you want to define. These are broken
into two sections, consisting of B15.1 positions
that are all defined from the B15.1 backstop
sensor, and also the standard positions which
are all calculated from the B15 sensor. If you
wish to use the B15.1 backstop sensor, you
must define the “First Strap” position as the first position. Once defined, you can then define either a “Second”
position or a “Multi” position program.
If you instead wish to use the B15 sensor and the software’s internal calculations, you can define “Front Edge”,
“Rear Edge”, and “Center” positions independently from one another. Multiple “Front” and “Rear” edge positions
can be defined together, but only one “Center” position can be defined. Alternatively, if your machine has the
Advanced Strapping Positions available, you can define a “Multi” position program. A “Multi” position program is
exclusive from the other position types, and so selecting it will delete other straps.
Once you have defined all the positions you wish for the current strapping picture, you must press the green
check mark to enter your changes.

Control Panel - Strapping Edit Add Front Edge Screen
If the first position is defined as B15.1, then all
other positions in the current strapping picture
will be based off of this sensor and the other
types of positions will not be selectable. In the
example, a B15.1 first strap position has
already been defined, which will place a strap
at a location based on the position of the backs
tops. As shown in the example, we are now
defining a second position which will place a
strap (since “no strap” is not selected) at 8.0
inches from the first strap. This strap will be
placed with 58% tension instead of the global
tension value. If the global tension is desired,
simply uncheck the “Tension” button in order
to use the global setting. If you instead did not
want to place a strap at the position, then you could select the “No Strap” box and instead of a strap, the side
pushers would merely square the bundle at this position and a strap would not be placed.

entered when machine has side conditioners.

To enter bundle dimensions, select the

measurement desired, and enter the
dimension. A Green highlight means the
software will then use the dimension entered.
(In the example shown: The Width dimension is
active and set for 800mm, the Length and
Height are not active.)
The most important dimension is Width for any
machine that has side pushers or backstops.
Length is important for very long bundles
(greater than double the distance from B15 to strap line), when a center strap is desired. A height normally is
not used unless the machine has an electric press.

Control Panel - Tension Screen
The tension screen allows you to set the

manual tension, which is a global tension
setting that all straps will use unless the
particular strap position has its own tension
defined separately.

The machine tab is where the Press,
Backstop and Side Pusher are turned on
or off, and settings can be adjusted.
A green box = device is turned on

A blue box = device is turned off
A red box = device cannot be turned
on because it has been
disabled.
Note: Only operators with User Level 2

access can get into the “Edit” section of each
device. Device settings will be retained after
the machine is shut down.
Control Panel - Press Option Screen
Press Options:
- Enable/Disable - the green check mark
and red “X” will enable or disable the
press. Disabling the device will prevent
User Level 1 operator from turning back
on.
- Press down delay timer.
- Press down delay with Side pusher.

Control Panel - Recipe Screen (Optional)
Note: Screen will not be present unless option is available on the machine.
The recipe screen allows you to save the
current recipe from the recipe strapping
picture on the Strapping Screen. Recipe
also includes global tension, all machine
tab settings (press, backstop and side
conditioners) and transport settings.
When the Save button is pressed the current

recipe will be saved and a line will appear as
shown. (A load icon will appear along with a
Grey box with ??? as default for you to enter
a name.) To load a recipe back into the
current recipe, you simply press the “Load”
button next to the recipe you wish to load.
Note: Loading a recipe will overwrite the current machine settings (tension, device, transport).
Control Panel - Alarm Screen
The Alarm tab is where current warnings

(Yellow) and faults (Red) are displayed.
Warnings are for information purposes only,
and faults will prevent the machine from
running.
If the “History” button is pressed it will allow

you to scroll through the last 100 faults and
warnings.
Control Panel - Parameter Screen
The Parameter Screen is where you can

change various parameters on the machine,
such as timers and other values.
Note: Individual parameters are either

visible or editable depending on the current
user level the machine is in.

Control Panel - Program Screen (Optional)
The Program Screen is for length dependent
strapping and it requires the machine to also
have recipes licensed. If the manual button
is selected, the machine will then use the
current strapping picture or recipe from the
strapping screen. If you select length the
strapping screen and recipe screen will
become unavailable. You can define which
strapping program will be used for different
length bundles by pressing the “Edit” button
next to the “Length” button.

Using this interface, you define either two or

three different lengths that will get a different
strapping program applied to them -- to
select between two lengths or three, press
the “+” or “-” buttons.
In the example shown use the “test1

program for bundles less than 180mm long,
“test2” for bundles between 180mm and
300mm long, and “test3” for bundles greater
than 300mm long.
Note: The Maximum length bundle that can

be input equals the distance from the B15
sensor to the strap line.
Control Panel - Data Tab

(Level 3 Only)
A USB drive can be placed in USB port
located on the back of the control panel.
Push the Save button. This will save all
Recipes to the USB drive and can then be
put into other machines, by loading the USB
drive into that machine and pressing the
Load Button.
When the Load button is pressed it will take

the machine back to all factory resets.
Note: This can only be done with machines

of the same type (Example: TR-C-6-SQ3,
TR-6-Pro, etc.) and with the same Recipe
License, either 3 or 32.

• For automatic machines, checkWeld Temperature
setting through operator interface. Too much heat
causes strap welds to slip apart, too little heat does
not melt the strap properly.
Insufficient weld cool time. • Check settings of Weld Cool timers using the
operator interface. Contact EAM Mosca Service
(800-456-3420) for assistance.
Exhaust fan not installed correctly. • Verify the air flow of the exhaust fan. Air should be
blowing away from the heater.
Too much tension on the strap. • Check the strap tension potentiometer setting on the
operator control panel; adjust strap tension as
needed for product.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Strap Tension Issues

Symptom Remedy
Poor or No strap tension on product. • Machine in “Soft Tension” Mode. Verify the machine
is not in the Soft Tension mode. Press the Soft
Tension push button to deactivate this function
(push button not illuminated).
• Low tension value stored in “Tension Memory”

function. If using Tension Memory function, check
tension setting that is currently stored in memory.
Reset to a new value.
• Tension potentiometer is set too low. Strap tension

potentiometer on the operator console set too low.
• Strap Tension lever is disengaged. Verify the

Tension lever assembly is properly seated and
latched.
• Strap Tension spring settings incorrect. Verify

tension spring settings to be 27mm (spring length +
head of bolt).
• Tension motor not turning. Check Tension Motor

(M3) connections and cables. Verify the associated
fuse per the electrical schematic is not blown.

Power ON/Machine Start -up Issues

Symptom Remedy
Power ON indicator not illuminated. • Verify the machine is plugged in to the proper rated power
supply.
• Verify the Main Switch is turned to the ON position.
• Check fuses. Replace using only original fuses with the
specified Amperage.
Power ON indicator flashing RED. • Machine faulted, check failure code on MSC-1 board as
noted below.
• Weld unit faulted.
• Strap dispenser empty.
Power ON indicator on Solid RED. • Check the safety and Emergency stop switches.
Machine in the strap thread/fault position. • Check if the machine is out of strap.
• Check to see if machine is faulted due to a strap jam. Clear
away strap jam and reset the machine.
Problem with the weld unit (Heat or Sonixs) • Verify connections at the Heater assembly E2 for (Heat
Seal), or verify connections at the Generator unit N2 for
(Sonixs Seal)
• (Heat Seal) - check status of lights at the heater assembly.
Replace unit if solid red light appears
• (Sonixs Seal) - Check for fault indicator light at the
Generator N2.
Conveyor will not start. • Check if safety switch or Emergency Stop switch activated.
• Fuse F7 blown.
• Conveyor drive belt loose or worn.
Failure code displayed on MSCB-1 board in • Troubleshoot per code displayed
electrical cabinet.

• The strapping machine is shipped on a pallet (A).

• The casters to the pallet using PPE strap (C). Cut strap and remove casters.
• With metal straps (D), the machine is fastened to the pallet to prevent sliding.
• In order to protect it during transport, the strapping machine is shrink-wrapped in plastic film such that
it is protected against spray water.
Note: To remove the machine from the pallet, cut metal straps (D).
Caution: Care Should Be Taken When Cutting Or Disposing Of Metal Strapping. Wear Proper
! Clothing Including Gloves And Safety Glasses. Dispose Of Loose Strapping Immediately.
