OUR CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIC INITIATIVES

Identifying issues that matter

Our company identifies and understands what issues are significant to our business
and our stakeholders and prioritizing them for action. We recognize that we cannot
address all the interests of our stakeholders and, because of this, it is an essential
starting point to identify issues for inclusion. Since we are a pharmaceutical company, it
is not beyond our expertise to address problems related to mental health. We have
determined that mental health is a high impact and a high-interest issue for our
company and stakeholders, respectively.
The rapid outbreak of COVID-19 during 2020 put the potential vulnerability of individuals
living with mental illnesses, including depression and anxiety, firmly within the spotlight.
Even before the pandemic up until now, this issue remains an urgent challenge. This
challenge calls for corporations to step up and take a leading role in delivering and
adopting a solution. For this reason, our purpose is to innovate towards change to
defeat depression and other serious mental illnesses. To maximize our positive impact,
we must offer solutions beyond providing medicines to help tackle the global societal
challenges of the spread of non-communicable diseases, lack of social and emotional
support, and the impacts of these issues on the mental health of the members of
society.
We aspire to be known as one of the leading pharmaceutical company in the world for
adding value to the society. Our company is committed to being a sustainable business.
To achieve this ambition, we will conduct our business in a socially responsible manner.
This approach is integrated into every aspect of our decision-making, in our strategies
and activities, always keeping in mind what is best in the long term for our shareholders,
our employees, and the communities which we serve and are part of.
Consulting our Stakeholders
The formulation of our corporate strategy also includes the identification of our internal
and external stakeholders. From there, we prioritize the most significant stakeholder of
our company with which we plan to engage. These stakeholders are the community as
they are the individuals on which our company has the most recognizable impact.
Responding to their concerns can make for a better business and helps our company to
meet their needs more effectively.
OUR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses worldwide, with more than 264
million people of all ages suffering from it. Depression can cause individuals to feel
sadness and lack of interest at work, school, and their families. The worst-case scenario
is depression can lead to suicide, with suicide being the second leading cause of death
for 15-29 years old and responsible for over 800,000 deaths worldwide.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), although there are known, effective
treatments for mental disorders, between 76% and 85% of people in low- and middle-
income countries receive no treatment for their disorder. Hindrances to effective mental
healthcare include a lack of resources, lack of trained health-care providers, incorrect
diagnostics, and the social stigma associated with mental disorders.
We are driving change to combat these mental illnesses and other non-communicable
diseases by launching our long-term social responsibility strategy which includes the
following programs:
* ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY
* PROJECT INCLUSION
* YOUTH BREAKTROUGH
* KUMUSTAPP

ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY

We recognize that affordability of medicines can be a challenge and we know that some
people in the Philippines living with mental illnesses and other non-communicable
diseases are increasingly finding it hard to pay for their healthcare, Ensuring access and
affordability is a responsibility we share with all involved in healthcare. Thus, we will
continue our efforts to help patients who are struggling to afford their medicinal needs
through a range of options, including:
* Afforda-love
A price reduction program that aims to provide price discounts of over 20-50% of the list
price for the most common and essential drugs for various diseases. This program also
helps us encourage people to buy our brand and not choose the generic version of our
medications as our brand offers the same affordable price.
* Patient Assistance Program
Free medication for non-communicable diseases such as asthma, diabetes, insomnia,
etc. to people in need who meet certain eligibility criteria, including annual household
income at or below 10,000 pesos or being a minimum wage earner.
To continue our effort to improve access to affordable care and capacity building, we
recognize the various vulnerable sectors throughout the country. Our company plans to
extend our affordability offerings by conducting vulnerability assessments, especially to
communities affected by humanitarian crises, lack of healthcare systems, living in
remote areas, and poverty.
INCLUSIVE SOCIETY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY
Another project of the UniLove is its operations called Inclusive Society. It taps into the
skills and abilities of people with disabilities particularly, those people who have
neurodevelopmental disabilities, in acknowledgment of their capabilities when subjected
to proper conducive conditions. This project enables the employment of PWD’s.
Documenting and publishing success cases, creating tools to equip willing employers
and matching potential employees to the appropriate positions demanded and,
collaborating with medical experts, educational institutions, government units, national
and international organizations, and the private sector. Of course, this is a small step
that leads to a big difference, and a meaningful impact is right around the corner once
different stakeholders take part in this workplace inclusion movement.

KUMUSTAPP
Our main project is called KUMUSTAPP. We adopted a new approach in addressing
challenges to the mental well-being of society by developing and designing a mobile
app that will help individuals relieve stress, anxiety, and other emotional disorders
brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and other prominent issues. The app will serve as
a companion that will provide people who experience significant impairment in their
quality of life to have emotional support, encouragement, and motivation. KUMUSTAPP
allows people to share their thoughts, problems and provide them with appropriate
consultation from psychiatric professionals.
KUMUSTAPP will have the following features:
