Parts of the Microtome
• Microtome Base Stage
- This is a platform that has rails, and this secures the knife holder base.

• Knife holder base

- It holds the upper jaw of the disposable blade holder. It anchors the knife holder towards and away from the block.

• Knife Holder
- Composed of a blade clamp which hold the blade, the knife tilt for adjusting the angle of the knife, and lastly the face plate which guides the
ribbons away from the blade onto the operator.

• Block Holder
- It holds the block in place, moves up and down. It has knobs that can be used to move it to different directions in order to align the tissue with the
blade.

• Coarse Handwheel
- Moves the block holder toward or away from the knife.

• Advancement Handwheel
- This only turns in one direction which is toward the knife. It has a safety lock to prevent the wheel from releasing and should be used if the microtomist
is not sectioning the block.

• Waste Tray
- Collects all the debris that falls down during sectioning.
