In the 2014 article: The impact of social media on the lifestyle of young people by
Dr. A. Jesu Kulandairaj. An assistant professor of commerce at Loyola College
Chennai- 34 Tamil Nadu, India, stated the influence of social networking sites (SNS) on
the lifestyle of youth today. Since having SNS has a significant impact on our society, it
is a way for people in the offline world to stay connected regardless of geographical
distance. The continuous search for innovative ways of communication leads us to
develop different social media. In recent years we have seen another boom in contact.
With new technology, we are now able to communicate across the globe. The increased
use of the Internet as a new tool in touch has also changed how people interact. The
difference in time or other context-specific barriers. They gained global Popularity as a
medium through which people transmit coordination and some cases, live their lives.
According to the findings of this study, social networking sites help young
people in a lot of different ways. Most of the benefits are that they were able to connect
with their old friends, they found it entertaining, they can connect with employers and
recruiters, and they can show off their talents and creativity, which helps them choose
brands and goods. Youth say that social networking sites (SNS) have a lot more
positive effects on their personal lives than a lot of people think.
The article structured is in a clear, concise, and detailed way and the article
deliver new information about how social media affects young people that can add to a
new knowledge. The graphs, analysis, and results of its data, the numbers and words in
the diagrams or the results are evident and portrayed very well. However, this article is
more focus on a positive benefit of social media on the lifestyle of young people, Dr.
Kulandairaj didn't provides sufficient evidence to back up his claims. Most of their
findings and analyses show that SNS has a positive impact on youth in terms of its
usefulness and influence. There's a general absence of more information on how social
media is affecting children and adolescents.
The only findings in the article that have a negative impact are the 21.2
percent of respondents who agreed that they had been exposed to an inappropriate
image and link that is associated with sex, crime, and violence. The loss of privacy, as
well as the overuse of SNS, are two other negative effects of social networking sites on
the personal lives of young people. The negative impact shown is a very small
percentage, and it was still insufficient to prove how social media had a negative impact
on the young people who used it.
There is a need for more claims on the negative effects of social media
on the lives of young people to make these effects more visible and educate the youth
about the consequences of spending so much time on the internet that It's possible to
enjoy social media for a while. Still, if you make a single mistake, the negative
consequences of social media will continue to affect you throughout your life. A clear
and concise explanation of the negative and positive effects is also required. This study
should look at both the positive and negative effects of social media.
