Colorism: Lighter Skin Complexion Perceives to be Beautiful

I. Introduction
   A. Introduce the topic
Colorism is a sort of subconscious biases in which people with darker skin tones are prejudiced
against by others, including their own race's in-group members. In the Philippines, colorism is a chronic
issue for people of color. In sectors such as money, education, status, and marriage, it is a system that
favors light-skinned individuals of color over dark-skinned people.
   B. Provide background on the topic to explain why it is important
Countless of individuals prefer to hire a light-skinned person of the same race over a dark-
skinned person (Hunter, 2007). Many Filipino have been discriminated several times because of the skin
standard that put into the culture of the Philippines.
  C. Assert the thesis (your view of the issue).
This colorism must be address because several people are defining beauty only to the outer
appearance, but a person’s beauty is not all about surface appearance of a person but also the from within
the personality and attitude.
II. Counter Argument
A. Summarize the counterclaims
This colorism has been surrounding culture of people for countless years that is why numerous
people claim that lighter skin complexion deemed to be more beautiful, respectable and have higher
status.
 B. Provide supporting information for counterclaims
This complex are mostly found in the South Asian culture where most of the skins of the people
are fair, in Korean culture fair skin people means respectable as for the country India dark skin complex
means dirty while lighter complexion is considered as beauty and happiness (Ismail et al., 2015).
C. Refute the counterclaims
However, not all fair skin or light complexion are beautiful because the concept of beauty is
constantly evolving people nowadays.
  D. Give evidence for the argument
Beauty has becoming more about self-awareness, and originality than it is about aesthetics
(Givhan & Morales, 2020) it means that people are now accepting and loving the way they are.
III. Your Argument
A. Assert point #1 of your claims
Inner beauty such as personality, attitude and self-confidence of person are deemed to more
attractive.
1. Give your educated and informed opinion
Physical beauty changed mostly for the reason of age and personality do stay longer that the outer
appearance of person since the longer an individual know each other the personality attract more.
2. Provide support/proof using more than one source
It was stated that physical complexion changes due to age, it is for it is a continuous process
where every person has the characteristics (Cardoso,2017).
Barrick & Mount (2005) said that personalities do matter when it comes to attractiveness and are
more important predictor of job performance in the future.
Also, based on the personality and character attributes, a beautiful person acts towards people as
if they were an individual is nice and friendly (Schmalzried, 2013).
B. Assert point #2 of your claims
Natural beauty is more cost effective in money and health wise.
1. Give your educated and informed opinion
Due to lightening skin products individual are able to have public health concern for it uses
various chemical ingredients.
2. Provide support/proof using more than one source
It was stated by Gul (2021) that cosmetic products, that are utilized to make the skin lighter, has
some of the goods contain hazardous materials like mercury and bleach.
For those who are changing their skin color permanently by skin bleaching has been linked to
early skin aging and consequent skin malignancies, as well as greater levels of hypertension and diabetes,
as well as depression and identity difficulties (Cruz & Mullet, 2014).
Moreover, lack of melanin content in the skin causes harmful effects due to UV radiation (Lee,
2021)
  C. Assert point #3 of your claims

Dark or brown complexion are beautiful and attractive, this color is stunning.
   1. Give your educated and informed opinion
Many artists are known to be beautiful with their skin complexion like Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki
Minaj, Nadine Lustre, Jaya and more. These people are proud of who they are and the beauty that was
given to them.
2. Provide support/proof using more than one source
Because according to Larasati, (2018) that when compared to pale skin, many people consider
tanned skin to be more exotic and alluring.
Also, there are many people who are more gorgeous than our skewed beauty standards can
comprehend. (Nusrat, 2020).
IV. Conclusion
     A. Restate your argument
Being a white skin or having a fair complexion does not mean a person is beautiful. There are
many definitions of beauty to begin with and inner beauty is one of those beauty that will attract people.
And people should reduce using products that affects the skin badly but instead love the natural skin color
that a person has.
 B. Provide a plan of action but do not introduce new information
Since the constant in this world is change thus beauty standard itself also changes. That is why
individual should love there self and be confident on what they have.
