Course Description:

The Education and Technology MA is based at UCL Knowledge Lab, a ground-breaking research center
that uses the latest evidence to design and implement innovative educational technology and
pedagogies that shape the future of education and learning. Supported by tutors who are all active
researchers from a wide range of fields including education, sociology, and computer science, you will
develop the skills to design, use and critically appraise education and technology across a wide range of
settings. Available for campus based and distance learning pathways.

Requirements:

 minimum of a second-class UK Bachelor's degree or overseas qualification of an equivalent.

The program's combination of academic and applied multidisciplinary elements provides a unique skill

 The blending of research and design methods with key issues and debates in the field will equip
you with critical thinking skills and the ability to appraise and/or lead evaluation studies.
 The optional modules provide the necessary background and skills to design and critically
evaluate technology in a variety of contexts.

The teaching and learning strategies of the program prepare you with oral and written communication,
as well as collaborative skills to work in interdisciplinary teams. The final dissertation/report gives you
an opportunity to delve deeper in a topic that interests you and helps you develop transferable research
project conceptualization and management skills.

Course Description:

Sociotechnical changes create a wide range of challenges and opportunities for educators and those

big data, and virtual or tangible technologies) are increasingly becoming embedded in our societies and

pathway is designed for those who wish to take a critical perspective on the use of technology in diverse
educational settings.

The pathway will provide you with a firm foundation for developing your career in teaching and
facilitating learning in formal and informal settings, education leadership, research or learning
technology. You will develop an in-depth understanding of sociotechnical change and a critical
perspective on if and how digital technologies can support learning in a wide variety of settings. In
addition, the pathway will prepare you to undertake further research in this rapidly developing field.

The form of the assessment varies from unit to unit, including:

 practical project work (such as the creation of a website or other educational software);
 a written literature review or other essay of approximately 3,500 words;
 evaluations of existing software or websites;
 creation of a teaching portfolio;

For dissertations, you can choose between a Mode A (traditional-type) or a Mode B (portfolio-type)
dissertation.

 Mode A dissertations report on a research project of your own design or discuss or develop
theoretical understanding relevant to the field and/or your professional development.
 Mode B dissertations are more practical, and involve you designing, testing and implementing a
technological solution to an educational problem, for example a website or piece of interactive
multimedia, and then reporting on this process.
 Mode A dissertations are 15,000 words long. The length of Mode B work can be negotiated, but
the overall workload is expected to be equivalent to that of Mode A.

Course Description:

Digital Technologies, Communication and Education is an award-winning programme that explores how
learning and collaboration are being transformed by digital media. This MA is designed to help teachers,
lecturers, administrators, managers, e-learning designers, trainers and anyone else with an interest in

Course Description:

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to focus on the use of technology in your particular field,
develop technical skills, including blogs, wikis and other social media tools, to deepen your
understanding of frameworks and how technology can enhance and support learning. While there are a
wide range of technological tools you may be able to use in your teaching, the course will encourage you
to think critically about effective they are in supporting learning. A strong interest in developing teaching
using information and communication technology is key - being an IT expert is not.
