1. Locate where you can find the following curriculum in the school setting. Secure a
copy, make observations of the process and record your information in the matrix
below. Describe your observations

Type of Curriculum Where Found Description

1. Recommended Office of the This type of curriculum
Curriculum (K to 12 Principal/Faculty stems from what experts in
Guidelines) education suggest.
Recommended curriculum
can come from a variety of
different sources, including
nationally recognized
researchers, policy makers
and legislators, and others. It
focuses on the content, skill
sets and tools educators
should prioritize in the
classroom.
2. Written Curriculum Faculty The written curriculum
(Teacher's Lesson Plan) refers to a lesson plan or
syllabus written by teachers.
3. Taught Curriculum Faculty This is about the
(Teaching Learning Process) implementation of the
written curriculum.
Whatever is being taught or
an activity being done in the
classroom is a taught
curriculum.
4. Supported Curriculum Faculty/Library A supported curriculum
(Subject textbook) involves the additional tools,
resources and learning
experiences found in and
outside a classroom. These
include textbooks, field
trips, software and
technology, in addition to
other innovative new
techniques to engage
students. Teachers and other
individuals involved with
the course are also a
component of the supported
curriculum.
5. Assessed Curriculum Faculty An assessed curriculum is
(Assessment Process) also known as a tested
curriculum. It refers to
quizzes, tests and other
kinds of methods to measure
students’ success. This can
encompass a number of
different assessment
techniques, including
presentations, a portfolio, a
demonstration as well as
state and federal
standardized tests.
6. Learned Curriculum Faculty This type of curriculum
(Achieved Learning indicates what the students
Outcomes) have learned. The capability
that students should
demonstrate at the end of the
lesson can be measured
through learning outcomes.
A learning outcome can be
manifested by what students
can perform or do either in
their cognitive, affective, or
psychomotor domains. The
test results can determine the
learning outcome, and the
students can achieve it
through learning objectives.
7. Hidden Curriculum Faculty/Office of the The hidden curriculum
(Media) Principal refers to the unplanned or
unintended curriculum but
plays a vital role in learning.
It consists of norms, values,
and procedures.

ANALYZE

Which of the seven types curriculum in the school setting is easy to find? Why?

Based on my inquiry with the teachers, it is easy to find the written curriculum in the school
setting because it is always available anytime and the teachers always make a daily lesson
plan for their teaching so I didn’t have a hard time finding it.

Which is difficult to observe? Why?

In my opinion, among the 7 types of curriculum, it is more difficult for me to find the hidden
curriculum in school because it is literally hidden and stocked somewhere. Even the teachers
at Don Manuel do not know where it is located.

Are these all found in the school setting? How do curricula relate to one another?

Yes, all types of curriculum can be found in the school setting but some of them are difficult
to access. Meanwhile, all types of curriculum are related because the school only follows the
recommended curriculum of DepEd which is the basis for all teachers in schools in making a
written curriculum or lesson plan. After the teachers create their lesson plan or syllabus, they
will implement it and apply it to their teaching and this is called the taught curriculum. The
teacher also uses a supported curriculum in their teaching such as textbooks. After the teacher
has taught her lesson she will go to the assessment to test if what she has taught is effective to
find out if she has achieved her expected learning outcome. The hidden curriculum is the
unplanned curriculum but it can help a lot in students' learning. In other words, it can be said
that all curricula are interconnected from the DepEd's lowered curriculum to the Hidden
Curriculum.

Draw a diagram to show the relationship of one curriculum to the other.

REFLECT

Make a reflection on the diagram that you have drawn.

You can see in the diagram the process of how DepEd suggested the curriculum that schools
should be based on in accordance with the K-12 Guidelines. Implementation of the guidelines
in DepEd recommended curriculum began. Teachers will develop and create a syllabus or
lesson plan in accordance with the recommended curriculum. After this, the teacher will
apply his lesson by teaching it using the supported curriculum as his reference. In order to
test the effectiveness of the learning materials used in his teaching, he must go through an
assessment process before he can obtain and achieve his learning outcomes. The final process
is the development of the hidden curriculum. Therefore, it can be seen in the diagram show
how the development process revolves around the implementation of the curriculum in line
with the K to 12 Guidelines of Deped.

very well and she achieved everything set out
in her learning objectives that she expected
her students would be able to do at the end of
the lesson.
b. How did the teacher assess/evaluate it?
She used scoring rubrics to measure the
group performance of her students and she
also gave each student a chance to evaluate
the other groups that performed and presented
during class.
c. What evidence was shown? Get pieces of
evidence.

ANALYZE

Write a paragraph based on the data you gathered using these key questions?

1. How does the teacher whom you observed compare to the ideal characteristics or
competencies of global quality teachers?

2. Was the lesson implemented as planned? Describe.

3. Can you describe the disposition of the teacher after the lesson was taught? Happy and
eager? Satisfied and contented? Disappointed and exhausted?

4. Can you describe the majority of students' reactions after the lesson was taught? Confused?
Happy and eager? Contented? No reactions at all.

REFLECT

Based on your observations and tasks in Activity 2 how will you prepare your lesson
plan?

Make a short paragraph on the topic.

The important thing I should consider in developing and preparing a lesson plan is to think of
the topic in accordance with the learning needs of my students because it is important to
focus on which aspects of learning they should pay attention to. In preparing the lesson plan,
it is also important that I think and prepare of a variety of motivational activities so that I can
entice my students to participate and have active involvement in the class. I just have to
consider the interests and talents of my students so that I can make sure they participate in the
class without getting bored. Nor should it be neglected to consider the assessment tools that
will be used to measure students learning outcomes before the end of class. Meanwhile, the
most important part of lesson plan preparation is the evaluation of teaching strategies and
learning materials that the teacher will apply to each part of his lesson to assess and evaluate
its effectiveness.

Answer the following questions based on the diagram.

1. Are the three components constructively aligned? Explain.

Yes because it is important for the teacher to start his lesson plan by recording and stating his
learning objectives to guide him in assessing the learning outcomes of his students. He cannot
do this if he does not apply different teaching methods and strategies to make his teaching
more effective. The teacher can only prove that he / she has achieved his / her stated learning
objectives if he / she conducts various assessments to measure the overall learning outcomes
of the students. Therefore, each of these components is an important part of lesson planning.
2. Will the outcomes be achieved with the teaching methods used? Why?

Yes because this is what the teacher will use to achieve what he expects his students to learn
at the end of the lesson. Teaching methods are important part of the lesson so that the teacher
can facilitate the whole learning process.

3. What component would tell if the outcomes have been achieved?

The teacher can say that he / she will achieve the expected learning outcomes of the students
when he / she conducts an assessment to determine if his / her students have really learned
anything from his/her lesson and these are the components that will tell that the teacher has
achieved his / her stated learning objectives.

REFLECT

What lessons have you learned in developing or writing a lesson plan?

The first thing a teacher should do and I have learned in developing and writing an effective
lesson plan is to think of a way for him or her to coordinate and align each part or component
of the lesson plan because it is important that the expected learning outcomes are aligned and
appropriate to the teaching methods and strategies to be used by the teacher. The teacher must
have a clear vision and plan to achieve his learning objectives and he cannot do this if he does
not know how to measure or assess what his students have learned. Therefore, the foundation
of the lesson plan on which the teacher's goal to learn his students is formed depends on his
learning objectives and need methods and steps to achieve this so it is important that the
teacher knows the teaching methods he will use. Meanwhile, assessment is the evidence of
learning so each part or component of the lesson plan is an important tool for the teacher to
implement his written lesson plan.

What value will it give to the teacher if the three components are aligned?

When each component of the teacher's lesson plan is aligned, he / she can execute his / her
lesson quickly because there is only one goal he / she wants to achieve so he / she can focus
on achieving his / her stated learning objectives because the topic he / she teaches is related to
the teaching strategies and assessment tools he / she will use. Therefore, the teaching-learning
process will be facilitated well because the plans and steps that he will take to deliver his
lesson properly are already set and ready. All that is needed is to implement it in the actual
learning environment to test the effectiveness of the instructional materials, teaching
strategies and assessment tools in achieving his main objectives.
