LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 GENERAL MATHEMATICS

Date: August 22, 2022 (Monday)

Time: 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. (Grade 11 TVL)
2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. (Grade 11 HUMSS)

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of functions.

Performance Standard: The learner is able to accurately construct models to represent real-life
situations using functions.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able:
1. recall the concepts of relations and functions;
2. define and explain functional relationship as a mathematical model of situation; and
3. represent real-life situations using functions, including piece-wise function.

Code: M11GM-Ia-1

II. Subject Matter:

A. Session Title/ Topic: “Functions and Their Graphs”

B. Instructional Materials: Cartolina, marker pen, PPT, Projector
C. Strategies/ Approaches: 4 A’s, Discovery Method
D. References: General Mathematics (Learner’s Material) First Edition 2016, pages 1-9.

III. Learning Activities

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Motivation
 Review & Recall the definition of a RELATION AND FUNCTION

B. Activity

Instruction: Ask students to fill the two sets below. SET A SET B

Group 1. NameFirst Letter of the name of their crush.

Group 2. NameBirth date
Group 3. NameAge
Group 4. NameNumber of siblings
C. Analysis:

To process the activity, the students will be asked the following questions:
1. How do you find the activity? Did you enjoy?
2. How did you arrive with your output?
3. What mathematical concept did you use?

D. Abstraction:

 All groups will present their output by pair and explain.

 A function is a rule that maps a number to another unique number.

 The input to the function is called the independent variable, and is also called the
argument of the function. The output of the function is called the dependent
variable.

 A piecewise-defined function (also called a piecewise function or a hybrid function)

is a function which is defined by multiple sub-functions, each sub-function applying
to a certain interval of the main function's domain (a sub-domain).

E. Application: Built-in! Task: (same group)

Identify which of the following real-life situation that represents a function.

 A weekly salary is a function of the hourly pay rate and the number of hours
worked.
 Compound interest is a function of initial investment, interest rate, and time.
 Supply and demand: As price goes up, demand goes down.
 Miles per gallon
 The length of a shadow is a function of its height and the time of day.

IV. Evaluation
True or False:

1. Money as a function of time.

2. Temperature as a function of various factors.
3. Location as a function of time.
4. Circumference of a circle is a function of diameter
5. Interest is function of Principal Amount
6. In the ordered pair (x,y), x is the input.
7. T-tables and xy-charts are different ways to represent a function.
8. {(-1,2), (1,5), (4,2)}
9. {(0,0), (0,7), (-2,4)}
10. The domain corresponds to the y coordinate.
V. Assignment

Define piece-wise function and give at least 5 examples.
