1. What are the negative effects of traffic jams?

Getting stuck in heavy traffic can have a tremendous impact on individuals’

personal life, career, future and even their safety. It is also stated that it can
result in delay, fuel consumption, air pollution and difficulties for
emergency vehicles.
When it comes to congested roads, procrastination may occur.
Consequently, not only does it lead to an increase in anxiety and stress but
also it might have a negative influence on people’s job since they might be
unable to act well because of being stressed out.
Another considerable motive would be that being caught in a traffic jam can
burn fuel at a higher rate than the smooth rate of travel on the open highway.
This leads to a rise in the consumption of fuel which can cost commuters
additional money. It also makes a significant contribution to air pollution
and global warming.
Last but not least, if an ambulance or a fire truck is needed in case of an
emergency, it is unable to respond in an appropriate amount of time which
can pose a threat to individuals and their property.
2. How can we solve the issue of traffic jams?
Public transport should be promoted.
If an individual has a problem with the car, he should park aside.
Vehicles should avoid stopping at the bus stops or forbidden places.
People should not be indifferent and when encountering debris or an
accident, they should call the relevant authorities.
People should respect lanes.
Adaptive traffic signals can be adjusted to the congestion of a
particular intersection. (adjust/ adapt/ get used to. adjust to (doing)
sth) (Adaptive traffic signals adjust the timing of their green light cycles to match
current traffic conditions on the ground)
Carpooling leads to a decrease in the number of vehicles on the road
which helps to reduce traffic issues. (Carpool (v) if a group of people
carpool, they travel together to work, school etc in one car and share
the cost. Carpooling (n) (U) )
