Directions for spelling and reading pages:

Have students practice fluency by scooping

phrases in sentences. On the sentence page
where the phrases are scooped have students run
their fingers along the marking underneath as they
read. They should practice each sentence twice
(coloring a smiley face after each time they
practice) before they read aloud.

On the spelling page have students say the name of

the picture out loud. Then, using their fingers, have
them tap out the sounds they hear in the word to
spell it (one sound per finger).

Monster CVC Game – Print the game board and
monster pieces onto tagboard and then laminate.
Students roll a die to see who goes first after
choosing a monster piece to be. Then students take
turns rolling and moving their monster to the
appropriate space. If they land on a sentence, they
must read the sentence correctly. If they land on a
spell space they must spell the word represented by
the picture. The first one to the end wins the game.
Spelling words: tub, pin, net, jet, fan, box, fin
