This section shall provide the students with instructions on how to complete
the module, to wit:
Teaching Strategies Use of UMAK-LMS, Voice-over Power Points Presentation, or You-tube video-
recorded lectures and Online links.
Introduction/Overview. This section serves as an introduction to the module students are beginning.
It has four elements:
1) Impart to students the significance of US Trade Policies among the 164 member nations relative
to the functions of the World Trade Organization affecting afore-cited member countries;
2) To recognize WTO’s main function in ensuring that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and
freely as possible – as it oversees the implementation, administration and operations of the
covered agreements between member countries;
3) As one recognized function of WTO is to provide a forum for negotiations and settling disputes;
and
This module aims to develop knowledge, skills, and attitude of the students in learning the role,
main function and objectives of the World Trade Organization.
INTRODUCTION
The World Trade Organization came into being in 1995, and the result of eight years of GATT
negotiations. One of the youngest of the international organizations, the WTO is the successor to the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), an international organization created in 1947 in the
wake of the Second World War for the purpose of reducing trade barriers through multilateral
negotiations. The WTO is the only international organization dealing with the global rules of trade
between nations.
Based from the foregoing narrative, the students are expected to cite the role and principal function
the World Trade Organization to prove the statement? The entire topic is consists of the following sub-
topics, viz:
1. Knowledge: A working conceptualization of the role, function and objectives of the World Trade
Organization; its formal structure, other important committees and the Secretariat;
3. Knowledge: On the various services rendered by WTO towards its members, settlement of
disputes, technical assistance to low-tech member countries, training and development initiatives;
The entire topic of Chapter 3 – World Trade Organization is consists of the following sub-topics, viz:
3. The WTO Agreements – Services, Intellectual Property, Dispute Settlement, Policy Review,
Technical Assistance and Training and Development and Trade.
4. Key Problems with U.S. Policy
5. Subsidy Rules to World Trade Organization
6. Sets of issues of US agenda for the new WTO
7. Principles of WTO Trading System
8. Globalization and World Trade
Group Tasks: Each group of five (5) students is required to submit a “Synopsis” of each of the Topic at
the end of every session. The format of the paper should contain a Cover Page using the CBFS
Letterhead, The Topic Title at the center of the page, indicate Submitted by: (Names of Student, Course
ASSIGNMENT
and Year, date submitted beneath the names). Also indicate Submitted to: (Complete name of the
Professor-all in bold letters). Each member of the group should contribute at least one paragraph of
his/her concluding remark and a photo at the bottom of the page showcasing the conclusion made. The
photo, if relevant maybe extracted from the 11 Power Point slides (# 67 – 77 on a (face to face) lecture.
Ensure that your conclusion should at least reflect the goals set under the “Learning Outcomes” marginal
column. The whole set of paper should have a minimum number of six (6) pages, including the cover
page. The Paper format should be presented on a font style of Arial, # 12. Therefore, each group is
tasked to submit at least a set of synopsis paper at the end of Module 3.
Each group of students shall be assessed by the Lecturer/Professor by way of Group Oral Revalida.
(Face-to-face classroom setting). They will be asked questions based on their understanding of the
contents of the Topics subjected to survey readings, viewing and discussions.
ASSESSMENT
This is where you should provide clear and explicit details on how you will evaluate/assess student work
and participation through each module. Each assessment must be checked against the Learning
Outcomes of the module. All assessments are to be completed at the end of every module.
