Essay for GED0019

1. Do you believe that unexamined life is not worth living?

Yes. I believe that unexamined life is worth living because it is important to use
our highly developed faculty of thought to raise our existence above that of mere
creatures. Simply eating, sleeping, working, and procreating can’t distinguish us
from animals. Without thinking, lives are not worth living. An examined life helps
in delivering love, hatred, generosity and joy at the right time, the right place and
to the deserving stakeholders. It helps in believing, learning and bettering.

2. Choose one specific period of philosophy and provide information and details
about the period.
Modern philosophy is philosophy developed in the modern era and associated
with modernity. It is not a specific doctrine or school (and thus should not be
confused with Modernism), although there are certain assumptions common to
much of it, which helps to distinguish it from earlier philosophy.
The 17th and early 20th centuries mark the beginning and the end of modern
philosophy. How much of the Renaissance should be included is a matter for
dispute; likewise, modernity may or may not have ended in the twentieth century
and been replaced by postmodernity. How one decides these questions will
determine the scope of one's use of the term "modern philosophy."

3. Explain the statement “Evil is the absence of Good”

Evil will only exist if good is not present. I believe it is the same as darkness exist
when light fades. Cold is just there because hot/heat is absent. For me, there is
no such thing as evil, all people do “good” things based on what they need or
what their perspective are. It will basically come to what the people around will
think of what these people are/will do.

4. Choose one philosopher and state his philosophical perspective about SELF.

Karl Marx. In Marx's theory of alienation, he states that self-estrangement is the

feeling of being alienated from people and things around oneself. Karl Marx's
theory focused more on the self-estrangement aspect in man's work.
5. Describe your childhood.

My childhood is good and happy. I have my loving and caring mother to give and
do everything that I needed. I have my grandparents who loves me
unconditionally as well as my uncles and aunts. I grew up in an extended family
and we all live in our grandparent’s house. My father was overseas before I was
born but he still manages to support us whatever we needed. I was a
valedictorian during my kindergarten period and my father went home to do the
honor of giving me my medal on my graduation day. I play a lot outside with
cousins until our parents call us to eat “merienda”. Sometimes, my grandparents
will ask me to sleep in the afternoon and will get mad if we will not obey. I hated
sleeping during those hours because that was the time that my favorite cartoons
were being aired and I was not able to watch it on our television. It was a bliss. If
I will be given the chance to relive those moments, I definitely will.
