“Mental Breakdown and Its effect to Academic Performance on Senior High

School Students”

Introduction
A mental breakdown is an extreme emotional mental breakdown that affects only one
person or student and may cause problems in our daily lives. Our emotional and social well-
being are interconnected with our mental health. A mental breakdown can have a significant
negative impact on a student's academic performance. Every individual has their own problem
that sticks with them until they can no longer cope with thinking too much and develop mental
disorder, which is negative for the individual.
A mental breakdown is a period of extreme emotional stress. Mental breakdown is
connected to stress, and anxiousness can lead to mental illness and calmness. Having a mental
breakdown means that they are no longer coping or do not know how to solve their daily
problems. The researcher selects this topic because it can assist him/her in understanding why
mental health is so important to our society, and why mental health is important at all stages of
life because it influences how we think, feel, and act.
In the Philippines, a large number of participants reported distress with symptoms of
PTSD (post-traumatic stress), depression, sleep disturbances, and/or suicidal ideation and
attempts in January 2020, and were screened certainly for mental health problems. Participants
also mentioned academic issues ranging from difficulty staying focused to failing tests and
quizzes. These findings can be used to launch a discussion about the implications for mental
health professionals, administrators, and educators.

Statement of the Problem


A person experiencing an emotional breakdown will experience intensely painful stress
symptoms. They will be unable to deal with life's challenges, being unable to participate in
normal activities, cooperate, academic performance, and other responsibilities. This lesson aims
to determine the impact of a mental breakdown on the academic performance of students in the
Philippines. The researcher wants to answer this phenomenon and this issue is important to the
researcher because he/she frequently suffers from a mental breakdown and wants to know if
other people have suffered from a mental breakdown as well. 
Objective of the Study
 Having knowledge about mental breakdown.
 Identify what is the pros and cons of the mental breakdown.
 Identifying how this can be solved.
 Know the importance of Mental Health.
 Improves understanding of how mental illness can impact a person's life.
Research Question
Are you suffering from Mental Breakdown?
Do you have friend/s that having a hard time in school?
Do you often doing your hobbies to prevent this kind of situation?
Do you want to advocate this kind of topic for them to be aware what is mental
breakdown?

Hypothesis
Having a Mental Breakdown is a personal life experience that the majority of people go
through. Many students suffer from mental breakdown, and as a result, others develop depression
or anxiety because they can no longer control or cope with their anxious emotions. Mental health
is important in our lives, and it should be prioritized because this issue can affect students.
A mental health crisis, also known as a breakdown of your mental health, happens when
you are under intense physical and emotional stress, have difficulties dealing, and are unable to
work properly. Suffering from a nervous breakdown and anxiety is crucial to observe because
mental health has an impact on our entire body. If a student's mental health is unstable, it can
affect her or his academic performance or ability to continue doing what they are supposed to do.

The Conceptual Framework shows how a Senior High School Student can be affected by
a Mental Breakdown. Senior High School students are affected by mental breakdown because
they are the ones who are most stressed about their future. They may suffer a mental breakdown
because most students struggle to deal with problems in their daily lives that they do not know
how to solve.

Significance of the Study


The goal of this research is to figure out why Senior High School students are having
mental breakdowns. The purpose of this study is to discover the causes and effects of mental
breakdown. This study is important for our society to be aware of our mental health if it is
deteriorating. The researcher looks for small details that can help students be more health-
conscious. This research focuses on how to avoid and resolve this situation. The benefits of this
study include gaining more knowledge that can be used to help educate others how to deal with
similar situations.
This study has an impact on the researcher because she/he has had mental breakdowns.
The researcher is interested in the effect and how to avoid it. The researcher will benefit from
this study because she will gain knowledge about this type of situation. The researcher may also
struggle with this research because she or he has personal experience with this particular topic.

Limitation and Delimitation


The respondent collection for the researcher was limited to Senior High School Students
in the Philippines. This researcher may be able to assist them in avoiding such a breakdown in
their daily lives. The researcher selects this topic because he or she is curious about what factors
influence the topic of having a mental breakdown in the Philippines. The researcher will conduct
online survey with people who are experiencing a mental breakdown using google forms. The
researcher intends to concentrate only on people his or her own age.
