Calamity/Disaster Your Feeling

1. Typhoon Every time that it is announced in the

national television that a typhoon is
formed and on its way to our region, light
or strong it may be, the panic and fear are
always there in my senses.
2. Floods Reports on television about the floods in
different areas, especially in Metro
Manila, is frightening and pitiful. It is no
joke that every family suffers, and tons of
damaged households, properties and once
again has a life that is lost.
3. Earthquakes When there is an earthquake in our place,
usually it’s just a shocked from the
magnitude of the quake but we are not
near the epicentre of it, so I normally feel
a little bit shocked and feeling strange and
feared. Yet, it feels so uncanny when I’m
watching it in actual event in every news,
I can’t imagine the panic and fear that
every person is experiencing during that
time.
4. Fire I was young back then when our house
were burned, it was very terrifying. I cried
a lot, I was shocked because I was in
school when that happened. I can’t stop
thinking of what will happen to us, it was
so tiring and exhausting.
5. Volcanic Eruption I can’t deny the fact that I get awed by the
picture perfect view of Mayon when
erupting, I’m always mesmerized although
I was scared for the people that are
affected of every Volcanic Eruption inside
and out of the country.

What troubling situations reminded you of the scenarios? Share the

feelings and opinions that you had related to the situations as shown in
the illustrations.
 This scenarios reminds me of the pandemic that all of us are
suffering. This are the problems that every Filipino are having.
Given the fact that we no longer have a source of livelihood, there
are still people who are not given the proper help they deserve,
especially those who are less fortunate to survive this pandemic.
This was the issue that almost all Filipino people are having that is
needed to be addressed by the government, knowing that not
everyone is capable enough to have a living this times. All of this
is the problem occurs when almost a year of Enhanced Community
Quarantine and lockdowns in our country, and up until now that
we are almost three years living this pandemic life. We are not
capable of doing what we does before, there’s a lot of rules and
protocols that we all need to follow to prevent the spread of the
virus. Although, most of the time, this rules are not followed by
some, but true enough when we follow this rules we could actually
help the spread of the virus and we can contribute to the slow
circulation of the societies risk.

1. Dale Marc is a 16 years old student. He, together with his

family, is currently staying in a basketball court which serves
as the evacuation centre for affected families who lost their
homes due to the eruption of Taal Volcano. He decided to
stop schooling and instead find a job to be able to help his
parents for their basic needs. I would tell him…. he could help
with his family livelihood without giving up his study. With their
condition, they are vulnerable but the fact that he is not at the right
age to work, and it is not easy to work and find job if we are not on
the legal age, it will still be hard for him. Furthermore, he still could
do extra job while studying, most of the time that is what student do
to help their family while still studying. I also believe that the needs
of his family should be provided by his parents, not him because he
was still a minor. At the same time, government should help those
who are affected by any disaster and help them cope up with their
lives.
Knowing that a disaster disturbs the usual pattern of
life and can cause both physical and emotional harm among
people, how would you ensure that you are prepared to
face the possible effects of ANY disaster that you may
encounter in life?
 I will first build and solidify my emotional and physical strength,
because of the fact that I usually lack strength in that case. I
will ensure that I am always ready and knowledgeable enough of
ways on what to do when there is disaster, like the practices on
how to survive, whether it was sudden or is announced by the
authorities. At the same time, I need to prepare and plan my
needs and necessity and scape plan.

Dear Ate Charing,

The tears that is flowing
from my eyes could not
stop. The whole story is too
exhausting to think about.
The pain to be felt as a
spectator is just excruciating
and so touching.
I can't imagine how hard Mr. Laloy
Dando and his fellow Christians went
through in the Marawi siege, how hard
they went through just to survive.
Dear Ate Charing, to enlighten you, I
will narrate to you the courage and skill of
Mr. Laloy to lead and help those who need
him. How he became the real mainstay of
people in need of his leadership and his
genuine and eternal love for his family and
his son.
Mr. Laloy Dando is one of few
Christians in an Islamic dominated
community. He was living his life with his
family in Marawi, and it was just normal
for them to encounter gunfights from
different conflicts of most of the Muslim
families.
It was just a typical day for him and
his family when someone announces that
the rebel group named Maute was coming
from their area, killing and executing
every Christian people on sight.
That is the start of battle of
Marawi between the soldiers and the
Maute rebel group. It was totally a
sorrowful night and day for Loloy and
every people in Marawi. Although
Christians was the main target of the
Maute group, Loloy Dando ignores
religion whenever someone needs his
help. Living a rather normal life leaving
the battlefield, he chose not to go and
stand, help and take the lead for his
colleagues and his family that is trap and
in danger in the midst of the war between
the opposing groups.
He manage to secure an escape with
his wife Grace and his son Brian, who
was suffering from fatal illness.
However, Loloy finds himself unable to
leave behind his fellow Christians who
are dire needing his help. He uses his
family’s friend home as their temporary
refuge for his family and for the 35
Christian civilians trapped in the middle
of the war zone.
For 12 tedious days, Loloy Dando
tremendously tries his best to protect and
shield everyone from the terrorist despite
having limited resources, internal
conflicts within group, the almost
uninhabitable space and the near danger
that they should have been if the
terrorists open their doors and find them.
The received message that one of the
girl in their group, that they will not be
rescued in their place opens up the mind-
set in him and all of them to pursue and
move out of their place and contend their
life from the war-zone. It was not an easy
going track for them, all the guns, the
shootings, the bombs, and all. Their plan
for escape is to dressed like the Muslim
people, to protect them from the rebel
group. They have the white flag to
symbolize them as a civilian, it was
almost close for them when his son Brian
and his wife Grace stops and his son fell
down and is tired of fatigue.
His son were almost giving up
and tell him he is too tired and they
should leave him. He then told his son,
“you are my son, I love you and I will
never leave you”. With that he carry his
son, running with everyone while they
were in the latter of the group, but then
all of their efforts and weary have
resulted to a great chance for them to
survive when they reach the vicinity of
the military men waving their flags,
running from exhaustion, with or
without footwear’s, while some of
them stumble from fatigue and are
shaking with fears. Laloy runs with his
wife carrying his son.
Ate Charing, I hope that you
also feel the same way I’am feeling
throughout the story of Mr. Laloy
Dindo.
Very truly yours,
Danica Vibar

1. What do you think are the significant needs of the people in the
video/article?
 The significant needs of the people in the video is their rights, and
freedom as a citizen of our country and as person. According to the
1987 CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES
– ARTICLE III which is the bill of rights. Written there is that:
Section 1. No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal
protection of the laws. As state in this act, nor shall any person can be
denied for the equal protection of law, but in the video all the people
are not protected by those people who mandate and govern the law,
rather they deprived them, threaten them, and they are caught without
definite reasons to be admitted. To further attest that, this is the section
2 of the Bill of rights, that is not followed by the government officials
in the article. Section 2. The right of the people to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures of
whatever nature and for any purpose shall be inviolable, and no search warrant
or warrant of arrest shall issue except upon probable cause to be determined
personally by the judge after examination under oath or affirmation of the
complainant and the witnesses he may produce, and particularly describing the
place to be searched and the persons or things to be seized.
2. Do you agree with the perspective of the President in mitigating
the effect/s of the disaster?
 No, even if he has the right to order anyone that is beyond
him, it is not reasonable to give rights to just kill or shoot
anybody without processed by the law, and it is not the proper
way to addressed and/or mitigate situation like that. Give
warning yes, it is fine but as the leader of a country, you must
create a way to bind your constituency without the use of
force and violence, necessarily.

3. . Suppose you have the authority to give suggestion/s to the

President in reducing the impacts of the disaster in the video, what
advice will you give him? Justify your answer.
 If I were given the chance to have an authority to talk to the
President, I will first advise him to expand his thinking and
mindfulness. I would tell him, if you were in their shoes,
would you risk your life just so the government could hear
your rants? They are risking their life because they wanted to
be heard, and they want something to be addressed. With that,
by hearing their thoughts, and mind them from where they are
coming from, we could reduce the impact of disaster because
nothing is not fixed by in good conversation. Make people
understand what they need to understand and also understand
them on what they want us to understand. Because we all run
our society, you are just the one assigned to lead.
People’s response to the hazard/s (How do
Harms of Hazards people coped up to the harms that are
shown in the picture?)
They perform bayanihan as always, they
worked together to remove and put the
corpses in the right place.

In this situation mostly people are all

in the evacuation centre and is
rescued by the air force.

With the unexpected tragedy that

typhoon Yolanda will make explains
why this people are hurt, treats and
recovers in the hospital.

People usually stays in the

evacuation centre and some build
again their homes after the typhoon.
