Both intelligent testing and psychological assessment serve as significant functions which require compliance with the established
ethical standards. These tools allow having a good understanding of an individual’s problems, behaviour patterns, sexual orientation
and personal interests (Ciccarelli & White, 2014). Some of the ethical issues related to intelligence testing and psychological
assessment include privacy and confidentiality issues. Moreover, some ethical issues are associated with cultural bias.
Psychologists should assess and interpret the obtained information, avoiding over-generalization. The obtained information is
considered to be confidential. The compliance with the APA ethical code allows psychologists maintain the privacy of their clients.
They should present the information obtained from intelligence testing and psychological assessment in the unidentifiable manner.
Moreover, psychologists should not share this information with others without consent from their clients. In fact, it is forbidden to
interview an individual without his/her consent. The fact that interpretation of intelligence testing and psychological assessment
involves description of an individual’s diagnosis means that psychologists should be accurate in providing treatment-related
recommendations. Psychologists provide some specific interpretations related to an individual’s life, attitudes, values and beliefs.
Their inferences are linked to estimation of the validity of intelligence testing and psychological assessment scores. Hence,
carelessness and poor awareness of the significance of intelligence testing and psychological assessment contribute to the
emergence of multiple problems caused by ethical violations. Psychologists involved in research process should be well-trained to
use these tools to provide valuable information about their clients. Intelligent testing and psychological assessment offer an
opportunity to assess the most comprehensive and up-to-date information, which affect different aspects of practice (Ciccarelli &
White, 2014). An individual’s cognitive, behavioural, emotional, and social functioning should be assessed without violation of the
ethical standards. It is important to address the issues like informed consent, invasion of privacy and confidentiality.
