You are permitted to ask any questions pertaining to the study after you have partaken in it.

The study:
The aim of this study is to find out if the time given to look at images affects how we
perceive the images. We will be finding this out using a questionnaire (on paper) where you
will be presented with a few ambiguous images. You will then be asked a question regarding
what you perceive of the image. There will also be a time limit for how long you can look at
the image before noting down your answer(s).

There will be multiple groups of people (the minimum number of groups is 4 and the
number of groups must be even which will each have at least 3 participants), each of these
groups will have a different time limit. Half of the groups will contain only male participants,
while the other half will contain only female participants. The questionnaire itself MUST be
answered on a day when all of the participants in the study have about the same general
emotion (e.g. on a P.E day or at the very end of the day). ONLY the students in Year 10 are
permitted to partake in the study.

The results from each time limit (multi-gender) and group (single-gender) will be separately
averaged.

Possible Risks of participating in the study

As with any psychological study, there are some risks involved, but in this study, the risks are
relatively minor and should not cause prolonged distress to you as a participant. They are:

 The time limit for each question might make you feel stressed or put you in a negative state
of mind
 You may feel like you are performing poorly on the questionnaire, HOWEVER, this is not to
worry as this is to be expected, as stated previously you may ask the researcher(s)
conducting the study ANY questions you may have after you complete the questionnaire.

 In the questionnaire you will be asked to interpret ambiguous images, this may cause stress
and confusion
