TOOLS
Program Suite - the programs that comprise it
are interrelated and complementary to one
another. It was developed so that users can do
away with analogous programs used for office
work.
Examples:
1.Adobe Creative Suite (that includes
programs for imaging, illustrations and
drawing.)
2.Microsoft Office Suite
3.WPS Office Suite
Office productivity suite - this suite
includes software used for word
processing, spreadsheet, presentation,
database management, and electronic
mail management.
Office Suite Applications:
Word Processor - It is used to compose, edit, save,
and print documents such as letters, brochures, and
reports.

Examples: Microsoft Word (MS Word), WPS Writer

Spreadsheet program - It is used to tabulate,


calculate and process data, usually numbers.

Examples: Microsoft Excel (MS Excel), WPS

Presentation program - It is used to create slides that
can be presented on the computer screen as a
slideshow.

Examples: Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT), WPS

Desktop publishing program - It creates publications


such as calling cards and greeting card.

Example: Microsoft Publisher


Office Suite Applications:
Database program - It managed structured data.
Example: Microsoft Access

E-mail program - It compose, send, and retrieve e-


mails.

Microsoft Word GUI (Graphical User Interface)

GUI - a way for users to interact with


computers, using graphical elements such as
icons, toolbars and menus to work around the
system.
KEYBOARDING
The keyboard keys:
1. Main keypad - It has the most keys which are
arranged like most typewriter keys using the
QWERTY pattern. Aside from letters and
numbers, this set of keys includes punctuation
marks and special keys like ENTER key, CAPS
LOCK key, and SPACEBAR key.

2. Numeric keypad - It is typically located at the


rightmost side of the keyboard. It includes the
digits 0 to 9, a period or decimal point,
arithmetic operation keys and the ENTER key
that also serves as the equal sign in
computations.

3. Cursor keys -It is between the main keypad and
the numeric keypad. These keys have the small
arrows on them that point towards the direction
that the cursor will move to when pressed.
Located above the arrow keys are the six shortcut
keys INSERT, HOME, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN,
DELETE/DEL, and END. All of them tell the cursor
where to go in a document.
4. Indicator Lights - It is located at the upper
rightmost corner. They light up if any of the NUM
LOCK, SCROLL LOCK, or CAPS LOCK key is toggled.
(“toggle” means to go back and forth, much like
pressing an On/Off switch)
The keyboard keys:
5. Modifier keys - It include Control/Ctrl,
Alternate/Alt, Shift keys. These keys
change the original output of a
specific key.
6. Function keys - is one of the "F" keys
along the top of a computer keyboard.
On some keyboards, these range from
F1 to F12. Along the same row are
some keys with special functions like
PRINT SCREEN, SCROLL LOCK, and
PAUSE/BREAK keys.

The fingers on your left hand
should be placed over the A, S,
D, and F keys and the fingers on
your right hand should be placed
over the J, K, L, and ; keys. These
keys are considered the home
row keys. Your thumbs should
either be in the air or very lightly
touching the spacebar key.

Tips:
• Keep your keyboard
home row height as
close to elbow level as
possible.
• Center the spacebar
with your body.

Tips:
• Do not angle or bend your
wrists. While typing keep
your wrists elevated and
as straight as possible.
• Avoid hunt-and-peck
typing as it causes strain
on the neck from having
to look down at the
keyboard often.

Tips:
• Don't use more force than
needed to press the keys.
• When you are not typing
make sure to rest your
arms and hands. However,
never rest your arms,
hands or wrist on a sharp
edge.
• Take a break from typing
every 20 to 30 minutes.
