Department Information

Department:

Supervisor’s Name:

Designation:

Duration:
4.1. State in detail what are the functions of the department (s) and how they are related to their
corporate objectives. (For this you should discuss with the department head and also refer to a text
book, for refreshing the concept)

4.2. Work performed by Internee:

My main aim for this 8 weeks internship was to enhance and develop the knowledge and skills to
help me in the future career. This internship helped me understand the various concepts ways
about the how the corporate world works and the strategies which are developed to maintain a
good relationship with clients and to increase the perceived value of clients
From the first day, I have learned a lot during my internship. My motive was to firstly
understand the business operations and process of Autocom Corporation. Before doing internship
at Autocom Corporation, I have a kind of bookish knowledge and couldn’t explore the real
business function, so by time to time by working at there, I also developed my practical
knowledge related to the business that Autocom Corporation is into and industry knowledge.
How actually the business is operated, I got to know this during my internship. I have gained a
knowledge from basic level. I was assigned different tasks by my supervisors and I have done it
with all my responsibility and I have done it with short of span of time. I also understand the
basic and core functions of every department, that is, Operational Finance Department
(Reporting Side, Payable Department, and Audit), Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales and HR.

Section 5. Theories learnt in academics, their

application, and recommendations

1. Merchandising and Sales Promotion:

Visual merchandising theories and store layout knowledge in particular was highly helpful. Also,
the rule taught in class of 80:20 ratio of storage space and display space in retail outlets was
something I saw in practice when I visited the stores. Furthermore, case studies related to
merchandising strategies employed internationally taught in class were something through which
I was able to add value in my project presentation.

2. Distribution and Channel Management:

Course material regarding organizational structures of distribution houses (and also the
meeting with a distribution house manager arranged by our teacher) proved to be highly
beneficial in understanding the trade marketing landscape and operations at Continental
Biscuits Limited. In particular, knowledge about ASM’s (Area Sales Managers) was
helpful.
3. Digital marketing:
I took the digital marketing course as part of my marketing majors electives. I was
enrolled in the digital marketing class offered by Sir Ammar Shah. Which was a mixture
of MBA and BBA students. Consequently, the level of seriousness and maturity in the
class discussions was extremely high. Also note, Sir Ammar Shah brought in a guest
speaker from ARY network. In fact, the speaker was a marketing manager at the ARY
Group, by profession. This class was one of the most useful class for me (As witnessed in
my internship time) because we discussed the digital marketing world over and out. No
area was missed. The most important things covered included these concepts:

 Search Engine Optimization

 Innovation on digital platforms
 How to monetize the digital arena?
 Negotiating with clients
 Graphics for social Media
 How useful are hashtags for digital promotion?
 Whether there should be a limit to the number of hashtags

Although, a lot of the concept were not directly related with my role as a Trade
Marketing Intern. However, they were something which helped me make healthy
contributions in my discussions with my colleagues. This is because my department did
serve as a kind of intermediary between the company’s Sales and Marketing Department.
Also, I developed certain ideas which also involved work on the side of the marketing
department. In particular, my recommended solution for increasing and enhancing
visibility in major retail outlets included the idea which was based on the concept of
social distancing. Also note, this idea could only achieve its objective of making the
marketing effort go viral is if it was simultaneously followed with extensive digital
marketing. My time in the digital marketing class enabled me to have knowledge about
how the digital arena can be used to aid with other areas of the business as well. Also,
what helped was that since Sir Ammar Shah was a practicing professional. All the
concepts taught were highly recent, and highly applicable.
