Service Bulletin
Number: SB2X-28-06R2
Issued: July 20, 2007
Revised: March 26, 2014

SNS SUBJECT: 28-40 INDICATING - Fuel Level Sending Unit Sensor Dial Replacement

1. COMPLIANCE
This Service Bulletin shall be accomplished On Condition of fuel gage functionality. Proper fuel gage func-
tion is indicated by a steady needle dropping at regular intervals as fuel is consumed during flight. If proper
fuel gage functionality is observed, no further action is required.
This Service Bulletin has been revised to update the parts list.
Operators who have successfully complied with the original release of this Service Bulletin, dated 20 Jul
2007, or subsequent revisions need take no further action if proper fuel gage functionality is observed.
2. EFFECTIVITY
Cirrus Design SR22 serial numbers 2334, 2420, 2438 thru 3354.
3. APPROVAL
FAA approval has been obtained on all technical data in this Service Bulletin that affects type design.
4. PURPOSE
Cirrus Design recently discovered a condition where some fuel level sending units could transmit inaccu-
rate fuel quantity information to the center console fuel gage.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the potentiometers in the sensor dials were faulty from the man-
ufacturer. It was also noted that at higher fuel quantities, the inaccurate information from these fuel level
sending units would typically cause the center console fuel gage to indicate more fuel than was actually in
the wing.
It has come to our attention that some of the sensor dial assemblies installed with the original version of
this Service Bulletin were again faulty from the manufacturer. To correct this condition, this Service Bulletin
provides for the replacement of the sensor dial assemblies on the fuel level sending units with improved
dial assemblies.
5. DESCRIPTION
This Service Bulletin contains instructions for replacement of the sensor dial assemblies on the fuel level
sending units.
6. WARRANTY INFORMATION
For aircraft under warranty at the issue date of this Service Bulletin, Cirrus Design will cover all parts and
labor costs for this Service Bulletin if the work is accomplished within the Compliance time period and the
work is performed at an authorized Cirrus Design Service Center.
7. MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS
3.0 manhours.

wire harness.

B. Remove key from ignition.

C. Set BAT 1, BAT 2, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions.
D. Remove sensor dial assemblies. (Refer to AMM 28-40)
1. De-fuel airplane. (Refer to AMM 12-10)
2. Remove wing access panel LW5, RW5, LW10, or RW10. (Refer to AMM 6-00)
3. Remove cable tie securing sensor connector and wire harness to existing cable anchor.
4. Disconnect sensor connector from wire harness.
5. Remove screws securing sensor dial to sending unit.
6. Repeat sensor dial removal at inboard and outboard locations on both wings.
E. Install replacement sensor dial assemblies. (Refer to AMM 28-40)
1. Position sensor dial to sending unit.

CAUTION: When installed, the sensor dial needle must indicate a fuel level of E (empty) to cali-
brate correctly.

2. Verify sensor dial needle indicates a fuel level of E (empty).

If sensor dial needle does not indicate a fuel level of E (empty), adjust sensor dial needle.
a. Remove sensor dial from sending unit.
b. From back of sensor dial, position metallic (steel) object against magnetic portion of sensor
dial to manually adjust needle position. Rotate needle to indicate a fuel level of E (empty).
c. Position sensor dial to sending unit and verify sensor dial needle indicates a fuel level of E
(empty).
3. Install screws securing sensor dial to sending unit.
4. Connect sensor connector to wire harness.
5. Install cable tie securing sensor connector and wire harness to existing cable anchor.
6. Install wing access panel LW5, RW5, LW10, or RW10. (Refer to AMM 6-00)
7. Repeat sensor dial installation at inboard and outboard locations on both wings.
