Types of Entrepreneurs

There are different types of Entrepreneurs that you should know.

1. Innovators – this entrepreneur has a skill of inventing new idea, putting-up


new businesses and produce new product/services to sell to the market.

2. Immitator – a type of entrepreneur who copies or adopts any new ideas of the
other entrepreneur.

3. Franchiser – this is one of the most common choice of a new entrepreneur.


They only franchise an already known business whose image is already
established to the public. Product and services are used in the business
operation. The franchisee owns and assumes all the business responsibility.

4. Self-Employed – this type of Entrepreneur takes all the responsibility over the
business and keeps all the profit from the business. An entrepreneur can work
full-time because no one is involved in the business. Self-employed type of
entrepreneurs can be those people who go into business in order to survive a
day.
Example: family store, repair shops, street vendors etc.
5. Traders – this type of entrepreneur assumes trading but is not involve in
manufacturing the product. They may sell it directly or as a retailer. They are
the middleman between the manufacturer and the customers.

6. Acquirers – this entrepreneur buys an old business who mostly are profit
losing company and suffering from financial problem. They still used the old
product and ideas of the past owner and make it profitable again. Hoping that
new management ideas might save the business.

7. Opportunistic Entrepreneurs – this type of Entrepreneur starts his/her own


business and develops the business as fast as it can. The reason for this is for
him to hire expert and skilled employees that the owner usually does not have.

Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneur

1. Leadership – an entrepreneur should know what the customer needs and


wants at all time. His/her employee must always be motivated by him. The
people expect entrepreneurs to be a good leader at all time because
he/she is handling the needs of the customer and his/her employees.
2. Dedication– an entrepreneur should not give up easily. He/she should give
his/her heart to what he/she is doing. Devoting himself/herself with effort
and time makes the business grow stronger and successful.
3. Ability to Connect with other people – an entrepreneur will create a good
relationship with other people that can help him/her or someone in he/she
knows. This will help the entrepreneur and his/her network in the future.
This will give a good impact to the entrepreneur’s business. His/her good
relationship with others will be remembered and will probably return the
favor in the future.
4. Creativity, self-confidence, and optimism – before an entrepreneur
introduces new product/services to the market, he/she should be
knowledgable of the product he is introducing. He/she should have
conducted research on his/her target market. He/she should not be afraid
of failures because some product takes time and effort to be seen by the
consumers. He/she should put into his/her mind that everything is possible.
5. Opportunity Seeker – an entrepreneur always seeks for an open
opportunity that will help his/her business grow more. All opportunity that
could benefit the business like an opportunity to gain financing, additional
equipment, land, and workplace. He/she consistently gauge possible
opportunity around him/her.

6. Risk Taker– taking a step up of building a new business and be an


entrepreneur is always affiliated with risk. An entrepreneur must be fully
equipped with tolerance in all the risk he/she might face throughout the
course of his/her business. Some risk are avoidable by anticipating what
could happen in the future and by making sure that accidents that already
happens will not happen again. There are different types of risks listed
below.

a. Risk of product obsolescence – this may happen if the entrepreneur
mispredicted how many products may be served or consume by the
consumers that may lead into product expiration. Useless product is
a loss to the entrepreneur.

b. Risk of natural calamities – this is an uncertain event that cannot be


anticipated so an entrepreneur must be ready with the risk of natural
calamities.
Example: flood, typhoons, fire

c. Risk of infidelity – employees who are tempted to steal money/goods


and are dishonest with their reports are risks in the part of an
entrepreneur. This kind of risk is avoidable but is hard to predict.

d. Risk of depreciation – this risk refers to loss of value of a


product/services due to its age or out of trend.

Resources Used by the Entrepreneur

a. Energy – energy can be the entrepreneur or the employees’ health.


To maintain high energy a person should be healthy by having right
amount of rest, exercise and nutrition. Personal attitude can
influence personal energy. Keep in mind that one should have a
positive atiitude to maintain goals and motivation.

b. Knowledge – life is unending learning. One should never stop


learning and improving itself. It is a responsibility to acquire
additional knowledge and improving skills such as learning how to
read, to write, to speak and to listen.

c. Employee – hiring skilled and experienced employees will help the


business to keep its vision and missions. With the help of the
competent employee business can achieve its longterm and
shortterm goals.

d. Skills – one can improve by giving opportunity. There are lots of


skills that are already learned and can be learned. Skills can only be
develop if a person are willing to undergo to a training and put his
heart into it.

e. Time – all of the people has the same time in everyday (24 hours in
a day). But time can be spent in different way. Entrepreneurs
together with his employees spend hours in operating the business.
Thus, entrepreneur should not forget to make a recreational activity
to help employees improve and provide bonds and satisfaction.

f. Equipment – equipment is useful to an entrepreneur as it simply
make the operation of the business easier. It can simply be the pen,
printer, ink and other equipment needed in the operation of
business. The value of the equipment depends on how effiecient it is
to use.

g. Fund – this is used to acquire product and services needed by the


entrepreneur. Its value to the entrepreneur depends on how secure
the future of the business with it.

Also, the Supporters of the entrepreneur is also important in starting a business. The
entrepreneur needs guidance and inspiration through his journey. This can be his/her
friends, family member and a coach.

Can you imagine how your neighborhood looks like five years back? I bet you’ll
say “Our roads are muddy and slippery”, “stores are very limited”, “we tend to walk
because tricycle can’t reach our house”, or “there are limited place to hang-out”.

For today’s lesson, we will discuss how Entrepreneurship affects the economy
and our status of living.

Activity: Wako’s Candy Pop


Directions: Read the paragraph below and answer the following question.

Wako is a young boy who loves to eat candies, but he cannot eat as much as
he wants because his parents would say, “Wako, that is too much sugar!”. This has
been a burden to him. One morning, he thought on how he could eat candies without
being restricted by his parents. He thought that maybe if candies can give benefit to
those who eat them, he could actually enjoy it. So, he came up with the idea of making
a candy that can actually clean teeth. He gave time, effort and acquire knowledge on
how his idea can become an actual product. After a long hard work, he is now a CEO
of his own candy company named “Wakopop”, a candy that can actually clean teeth.
He is now enjoying earning money, freedom of work and eating candies.

Roles of Entrepreneurship in Economic Development of a Country

1. Gaining profit and Sharing – as the entrepreneur decided to build his/her


business h/shee will need others for gathering resources. Those resources are
the money, equipment or a man power. This can benefit both the entrepreneur
and others who shares success to the business.

2. Provides Job Opportunity – entrepreneur who starts a business will need help
from the people who has skills and knowledge that can help him/her expand
his/her business. As the business grows, there will be a continuous hirng of
employees and this for sure will give job and provide opportunity to the
community.

3. Community Development – building businesses develop community.


Entrepreneur will look for a place to develop and build a building where he/she
can locate his/her business. This will result to a road improvement, rails, water
supply and electricity stability.

4. Elevate living – if the business of the Entrepreneur will rise, he/she will need to
expand its business. This will benefit the community by providing them additional
choices of products and services. They also may create job and introduce new
technologies that can make life easier.

5. Export – eventually, when a business is growing it will look to a larger market.


This may include foreign markets that will surely affect both the business and
the community. It will give bigger market that will lead to currency inflows and
will allow an access to new technologies.

Career Opportunities for Entrepeneurship Graduates

1. Business Consultant – business today needs a business consultant that will


be able to help them with their business difficulties and decision making.
Entrepreneurship graduates are trained to identify the problem and solving it.

2. Sales Representative– entrepreneurship degree requires the student to


know and be a skilled companys representative, how to manage a
department and promote businesses. This is a perfect job for an entrepreneur
graduate.

3. Real Estate Broker – an entrepreneurship graduate can take a Real Estate


Licensure Examination. He/she can use the skills he/she acquire in
entrepreneurship course with the buying or in selling a residential,
commercial and insdustrial spaces.

4. Research and Development – R&D required qualified applicant to have


trainings and should be someone who educated and understand the concept
of the business, process and practices that fits to an entrepreneur graduate.

5. Teacher – entrepreneurship graduates are able to become an educator.


They can teach core subjects of the Senior High School. They are perfect to
teach subject like Entrepreneurship, Organization and Management, Ethics,
Business simulation and other business-related subjects.

6. Business reporter – an entrepreneurship can take a quick class for article


writing. They can lead the local business reports and be able to make
business section stimulating and appealing because of their prior knowledge
about entrepreneurship.
