○ Started in the industrial age - productivity, manpower,
efficiency.
○ Transparency of Chartered Corporations
○ The idea of corporation was a “gift from the people to
serve the public good”

● A legal “Person”
○ Legal rights and protection of a person.
○ Immortal - company’s don’t “die” like humans.

● Early 2000’s
○ Corporations are taking advantage of this “right” for
PROFIT and POWER.
○ Companies are scrutinized by the public for unethical
practices.

Ex.
Fight over the Adani Carmichael coal mine became a symbol of how
corporations cannot continue to ignore the wishes of the community
and create a future based solely on their financial interests alone.

We can come together and push back against corporate agendas


and demand a safe and sustainable future.
