A. Answer the questions.

(30 points)
1. Discuss the challenges of responsible household solid waste disposal.
2. Explain how we can reduce the amount of solid and hazardous substances being disposed
in our communities.
Some of the ongoing challenges with solid waste disposal is that it is linked to climate change,
most notably through greenhouse gas emissions. The waste collection vehicles as well as landfills
produce greenhouse gases. When the waste is incinerated instead of landfilled, carbon dioxide is emitted.
Without solid waste disposal, there is a significant public health threat. In many developing countries that
struggle to implement a reliable Municipal solid waste collection service, there is much-uncollected waste
that provides food and a breeding ground for disease-carrying rodents and insects.
To reduce the amount of solid and hazardous substances being disposed of in our communities
we should use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable batteries so that it can lessen the batteries that
are being thrown away. Next is the use of biodegradable cleaning products because these types of
products are safe, biodegradable, non-toxic, and made with sustainable packaging, which means it is good
for our planet. Green cleaning products can help lessen both water and air pollution, and effectively fight
climate change and ozone depletion. Lastly, consult local environmental agencies for safe disposal
methods for hazardous waste incinerators so it can help every one of us make our surroundings breathe
and make it healthy always. We should all help each other to do these things because one person can help
a lot already.
